Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for static, dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment, and packages, and may conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
Duties may include providing direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication and providing design information to drafting for packaging documentation.
This role will work independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables.
The individual will be responsible for entire projects or processes within a technical area, and typically responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level technical staff.
The Mechanical Engineer will develop technical solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product / solution.
They will also develop solutions to technical problems and issues that are unclear and require deep technical knowledge.
This role requires communication with internal and client project team members and will work to influence team members regarding solution design, process and / or approaches.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
Candidate must be located in the Chicago area. 75% on site at AGL Regional Office (Chicago) and 25% Telework. 25% Travel Required.
Responsibilities include :
- The Mechanical Engineer shall provide technical support to the Infrastructure Engineering Center, for accomplishment of project engineering packages :
- Develop site specific project plans and specifications for solicitation and contracting of engineering projects for FAA approval and acceptance.
- Perform site surveys to collect site-specific project data and research all (state, local, federal, FAA, etc.) standards, construction codes and ordinances.
- Provide analysis, recommendations, and solutions to issues identified during the site survey.
- Prepare summary trip reports within two working days of trip completion.
- Compile and complete project documents as follows :
- Scope of work and project transmittal.
- Drawing and specification lists.
- Operational Risk Management checklists.
- Furnish information required for the preparation of Purchase Requests (PR) for assigned projects. e. Furnish information required for the preparation of NAS Change Proposals (NCP) for assigned projects.
- List of Government furnished properties.
- Prepare Airspace case documents.
- Assessment of engineering impacts on Environmental & Safety Compliance Program Project checklists.
- Drawings and specifications.
- Engineering cost estimate for project plans per FAA Standard / guidelines.
- Estimated completion time and project schedule.
- Provide technical engineering support for all phases of assigned new construction and renovation projects (i.e. evaluate shop drawings, design proposals, and interpret the technical requirements for adherence to contract documents).
- Participate in Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI) on all assigned projects and provide recommended resolutions on all items relating to engineering.
- Perform engineering studies for feasibility and cost versus benefit.
- Provide technical input to the Government Technical Interpreter in actions to plan, budget, program, and coordinate the development of engineering projects.
- Develop project drawings in accordance with the FAA Standard / guidelines.
Minimum Education / Experience
- General Engineering Degree (B.S.)
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Project Engineer and / or Resident Engineer with Mechanical Engineering Design and experience with tower, shelter and similar structure projects.
- Knowledge of Unstaffed Infrastructure Sustainment (UIS) facilities
- Knowledge of National Airspace System Equipment Tower (NASET), National Airspace System Equipment Building (NASEB), Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), power, general building construction techniques, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), fire detection, security, site work.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Corporate Work Plan (CWP) 4.1.12
- Typically requires BS and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience.

- Candidate must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
- This position is hybrid and will require 75% on site at AGL Regional Office (Chicago) and 25% Telework.
