Job Description
Michael Baker International is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the team in our Rocky Hill, Connecticut or Boston, MA office.
As a part of our Engineering Financial Operations Team, the Financial Analyst (Project Accountant) is responsible for providing high level financial analysis on a portfolio of projects through their life cycle.
Must thoroughly understand the financial components of a project and proactively work with Project Managers to monitor and analyze project performance against budget.
The Financial Analyst (Project Accountant) is also responsible for accurate project set up in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
Provide support to the Project Managers by developing subcontracts, providing and tracking insurance certificates, ensuring certified payrolls are current.
Review contracts and terms regarding project type, scope of work, and invoicing terms. Verify subconsultant budgets are created in accordance with the contract terms.
Must have the ability to identify potential project profit erosion issues before they occur and assist with the development of a corrective action plan, if needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The majority of the day will be spent monitoring and analyzing project performance financials and managing financial aspects of engineering projects
- Create the financial file to track updates on the health of projects for monthly project status review meetings with Project Managers.
- Identify potential profit erosion scenarios and prevention.
- Forecast, analyze and present employee utilization projections during the New England monthly staffing meeting and attend project performance reviews with Project Managers.
- Collaborate with Department and Project Managers to identify resource leveling opportunities and hiring needs.
- QA / QC review of cost proposals for new and existing state contracts.
- Aid Project Managers with cost to complete, forecasts and task break down for project setup to effectively manage projects.
- Assist with the invoicing process for projects and with the development of annual budgets for the New England offices
- Assess and analyze third party audit findings for concurrence to closeout contracts
- Serve as the New England expert for Oracle ERP, source relevant data and reports and help train new Project Managers.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred, or equivalent work experience
- 0-5 years of related experience
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Outgoing, organized, and detailed; ability to work with and build relationships with a wide variety of people
- Strong English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on assigned projects as well as on Michael Baker International policies, procedures, and databases and acquire an understanding of the Project Accountant role
- Must have computer skills (Microsoft Office) with experience in Excel a must, Oracle Accounting software experience desirable

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $58,895 - $75,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.

Transportation Planner I

The ideal candidate will work directly under the supervision of the department manager and focus on delivering transportation projects for wide variety of clients including IDOT, IowaDOT and other Local Agencies.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise with public works infrastructure projects and proven client relationships. The Project Manager will provide engineering design and oversight in the successful delivery of transportation and public works projects throughout Illinois as well as leading and mentoring project teams in design and plan preparation for bridge projects for IDOT and other state and local agencies.
The Project Manager may also support projects in other states. Responsibilities include :
- Managing a wide variety of complex bridge related projects
- Having a broad understanding of structural design, including inter-discipline knowledge to guide and communicate on large-scale projects
- Take an active, leading role in managing key deliverables (drawings, calculations, etc.) addressing our clients' needs, providing engineering solutions to the harder-to-solve problems, while embracing, advancing, and improving upon our design tools and technologies.
- Ability to perform peer reviews, QA, or QC reviews in accordance with the office or project specific QAQC plan.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with other disciplines effectively
- Managing project schedules, budgets, invoicing, scope, and client expectations
- Directing, coordinating, and reviewing work performed by internal staff and subconsultant design teams
- Mentoring, training and growing staff in the performance of job duties
- Working with a team of engineers and planners to develop strategies and teaming arrangements to pursue projects

- Growing existing client relationships and developing new ones PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum professional requirements include :
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, or similar degree with 15+ years of bridge related design experience.
Master's degree or higher is preferred.
Illinois PE and SE required.
Having a PE or SE registration in other states is a plus.
- 15+ years of progressively responsible experience working on bridge design projects
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD bridge design; IDOT & Iowa DOT bridge design standards.
- Experience with Alternative delivery methods is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related programs
- Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
- Experience with load rating and structural analysis software such as AASHTOware BrR, Midas or LARSA
- Knowledge of work-related to delivering a bridge project for IDOT, and other Local Agencies.
- Management of projects involving multiple disciplines such as roadway, drainage, geotechnical, environmental, etc.; and experience supervising the execution, financial performance, and quality assurance of multiple simultaneous projects is desired ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated ability leading and managing the design and detailing of complex transportation structures, with an emphasis on experience and knowledge of the design, analysis, inspection and maintenance of highway and railroad bridges
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to direct and supervise staff engineers and technicians
- Strong leadership, project management skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to mentor engineering staff
- Strong client relationships and the ability to participate in business development and proposal preparation is desired

Planner III
DESCRIPTION The Environmental Planner III will join a team of experienced designers, technical experts (e.g., noise, waste, natural resources), and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective environmental planning.

The Senior Environmental Planner's primary responsibilities will include :
- Executing and leading hands-on planning efforts on a wide range of transportation planning projects (highway, bridge, rail, aviation, etc.)
- Serving as a Task Manager for NEPA project deliverables (i.e., CE / EA / EIS)
- Provide direct support to project managers
- Directly interacting with clients, stakeholders, and the general public
- Mentoring junior staff
- Supporting marketing and business development efforts
- Identifying new opportunities and assisting in the positioning for and ultimately securing the opportunity
- Supporting the facilitation of public meetings as a member of the project team
- Supporting NEPA development for projects of varying sizes and complexities in PA, WV, and other locations
- Supervisory responsibilities to direct reports and assigning various tasks to staff
- Collecting and compiling a variety of quantitative and qualitative data to prepare reports, maps, and related graphics
- Conferring with resource agencies, transportation officials, design engineers, and other technical specialists to devise and recommend the appropriate transportation decisions

- Researching regulations and standards
- Developing reports under the direction of the department manager
- Other duties as assigned PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Four-year degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Biology, or related discipline
- Minimum 7-10 years of NEPA / Section 4(f) experience with state DOT planning related experience that demonstrates a successive increase in experience and responsibilities. 10-15 years preferred
- Knowledge of NEPA, Section 4(f), Section 106, natural resources studies, environmental impact assessments, community planning, economic development, and land use
- Ability to conduct research and prepare statistical planning reports on NEPA actions with an understanding of land use, environmental, and social and economic possibilities / constraints.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with ESRI ArcGIS helpful
- Ability to accommodate moderate travel Compensation The compensation amount for this position is $82,326-$123,489 and will be dependent on the experience of the incoming candidate.

Aviation Engineering Manager
DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker is actively seeking an Aviation Project Manager to join our Tampa staff and oversee project performance for aviation projects in the State of Florida.
- Serve as Engineer of Record on various airport projects, responsible for completing quality plans, specifications, estimates, and reports with little to no guidance
- Manage staff in 1-3 offices to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and with a high level of quality
- Serve as Project Manager, responsible for project profit and loss

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Broad knowledge of aviation planning, programming, design, and construction.
- Overall knowledge of the aviation industry preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with the AIP and the grant programs preferred.
- Knowledge of FAA Airports policies and procedures, including FAA Advisory Circulars preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial site and roadway design and construction.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and knowledge of Microsoft Project scheduling software.
- Knowledge of drainage engineering software, drainage design, and drainage permitting
- Pavement design experience.
- Water and wastewater utility design a plus.
- Knowledge of various civil design standards and guidelines.
