Maxar is currently seeking a Flight Dynamics Systems Engineer to join our Aerospace Engineering team in Herndon, VA. This position will support orbit design, development, integration, and testing of future cislunar spacecraft.

It will also support the Navigation Systems team in Westminster, CO which is responsible for orbit determination, orbit prediction, orbit maintenance, and collision avoidance operations and associated software development for Maxar’s Earth Intelligence spacecraft constellation.

As a Flight Dynamics Systems Engineer, you will work as part of larger multi-disciplinary teams that include spacecraft system engineers, ground system engineers, software engineers and spacecraft operations teams.

What you will do :

Support the Aerospace Engineering team to integrate launch and cislunar trajectory planning, feasibility, and visualization into the Maxar software tool suite.

Design, investigate, analyze, and document potential cislunar trajectories including :

Lunar Orbits

Lunar transfers

Planar orbits about all libration points

Northern and Southern Halo orbits about L1, 2, 3

Northern and Southern L1 / L2 NRHOs

Lunar DROs

Lunar Free Return trajectories

Reasonable trajectory solutions between earth, libration point, and lunar orbit combinations

Low energy transfers and Trajectory optimization

Support the Navigation Systems team in the execution of spacecraft navigation operations, mission design, analyses, system development, and documentation.

Derive and test spacecraft navigation algorithms for improved accuracy, speed, optimization, and spacecraft safety.

Perform analyses to quantify operational performance metrics.

Develop spacecraft navigation software in a cloud-based, service architecture.

Execute predicted orbit maintenance scenarios to maintain constellation orbits and spacecraft safety.

Perform spacecraft navigation tasks in support of launch and early operations for next generation earth observation spacecraft constellation.

Write technical documents to capture procedures and results.

Communicate spacecraft navigation status and analyses results across broader organization and space operator community.

Minimum Requirements :

Must be a U.S. citizen and have an active / current TS / SCI clearance

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, physics, or related field; four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree

At least 2 years experience in orbital mechanics, statistical estimation, and associated spacecraft flight dynamics

Preferred Qualifications :

M.S. in aerospace engineering or related technical field

Strong and innovative computer language skills

Experience with Unix / Linux, Python, and GitHub

Excellent written & oral communicator

Proven ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical groups

Superb problem-solving, root cause identification, Verification and Validation (V&V) skillsets

Strong background in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) theory, algorithms, toolkits, automation, research, and / or applications

Experience with satellite flight dynamics operations including conjunction analysis and collision avoidance

Experience in Spacecraft Trajectory Optimization and / or NASA’s General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience.

The range for this position is :

$72,000.00 - $121,000.00 annually.

Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring that the work environment is safe and well-maintained
  • Preparing Passdown, incident, and Daily Activity reports
  • Monitoring security surveillance systems
  • Executing all Maxar Physical Security policies and procedures
  • Investigating and reporting hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances in the workplace
  • Monitoring and authorizing entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft
  • Patrolling classified and unclassified premises to prevent and detect intrusion signs and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates
  • Supporting security training and briefings
  • Conducting end-of-day security checks
  • Conducting classified area open / close procedures
  • Supporting the control of Secret storage materials
  • Protection of combinations to security containers, cabinets, vaults, classified areas. Protection / supervision of keys and locks.
  • Escorting personnel throughout the facility
  • Climbing stairs and ladders, running, and patrolling exterior grounds on foot for extensive periods of time. These duties may need to be carried out in inclement weather conditions, including snow, ice, and excessive heat.
  • Other security related tasks assigned by Maxar Security Managers

Minimum Requirements :

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a TS / SCI level security clearance
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be willing to meet the Physical Security Officer dress and appearance standards

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 6 months of customer service experience
  • Prior experience with personnel or property protection
  • Experience with access control systems, preferably C-CURE
  • Experience with security surveillance systems, preferably Avigilon
  • Candidates must be able to make the right decisions swiftly and possess excellent communication and observation skills
  • Possess satisfactory public relations and customer service skills, sufficient to allow them to interact positively with Maxar employees, visitors, law enforcement agencies, and the general public
