Description

Reports directly to Group Leader-Sanitation. Responsibilities include the operation of equipment used to clean as it relates to patients, cafeteria and the main kitchen.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Cleans dishes and equipment in a safe and sanitary manner following department policies and procedures.
  • Uses the following equipment : flite-type dishmachine, pot and pan machine, cart washer, powered floor cleaner, fryolator fat filter, and general cleaning equipment.

Informs supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.

  • Utilizes approved cleaning agents in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Works in the dishroom emptying soiled patient tray trucks, cafeteria trays, rinsing and stacking dishes, loading and unloading the dishmachine and putting clean dishes away in their designated areas.
  • Works in the pot and pan area rinsing, washing and sanitizing pots, pans and utensils and putting them away in their designated areas.
  • Works in all kitchen and cafeteria areas cleaning equipment, floors, walls, refrigerators, etc. in accordance with department standards.
  • Follows established policies for cleaning and sanitizing all small wares and equipment.
  • Disposes of trash into appropriate receptacles in a safe and sanitary manner throughout the production and other designated areas.
  • Make deliveries and pick-up of items upon request (ie : to and from the purchasing unit, maintenance department, etc.).
  • Prepares kitchen and cafeteria areas for monthly pest control inspection.
  • Attends meeting and inservices as scheduled.
  • Follows department dress code policy.
  • Supervises the safe and sanitary disposal of all production and cafeteria area trash and other areas upon request.
  • Makes deliveries and picks-up items upon request (ie : to and from the purchasing unit.)
  • Works in cooperation with other Group Leaders to ensure completion of employee job assignments and the safe operation of equipment.
  • Performs routine cleaning assignments throughout the work area.
  • Secures the main kitchen and cafeteria is responsible for closing doors at specified times.
  • Follows department dress code policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS : Works in large, commercial kitchen and public feeding cafeteria. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.Unit can be noisy and hot.

Qualifications

SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED : Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English at a basic proficiency level and perform basic arithmetic computations, in order to measure detergent and cleaning solutions.

Bends, lifts, carries, pushes, and handles items weighing, up to 70 lbs.Must be able to stand for 100 percent of the workday.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Produces bakery items and desserts as assigned following standardized recipes.Ensures acceptable food temperatures, food quality and appearance.

Weighs and measures products / recipe ingredients utilizing approved standardized equipment.

GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT :

The Data Scientist works in The Center for Value-Based Health Care & Sciences (CVBHCS) to provide analytical support for research activities within the Department of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).

The MGH Center for Value-Based Health Care & Sciences focuses on health services and outcomes research, specifically assessing the economic burden associated with neurological conditions.

The center was created to increase the value of healthcare in neurology concerning the ratio of quality and outcomes to cost ().

Our center applies computational and machine learning methods to understand the impact of seizures and abnormal brain activity on outcomes in critically ill patients.

Our goal is to improve treatment strategies and the clinical care of these patients. The analysis of large datasets (including EHR and EEG datasets, among others) is central to these efforts.

Specific efforts focus on developing methods for automatically abstracting data, including clinical variables (, medication doses, radiology, laboratory data) and clinical outcomes (, medication adverse effects) on a large scale, creating tools to predict clinical outcomes in patients with seizures and abnormal EEG patterns treated with anti-seizure medications;

and understanding the relationships between abnormal patterns of brain activity (EEG patterns) and neurological deterioration.

Efforts will also focus on creating tools for data mining of structured and unstructured clinical data, including free text reports and clinical notes.

Reporting to the Co-Directors of the MGH CVBHCS, the Data Scientist contributes largely to the analytical components of ongoing studies.

These studies produce generalizable, publishable findings. Specifically, the Data Scientist works with a team of investigators, clinical research coordinators, and Scientists on various clinical studies and quality improvement projects.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Collaborate with Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators, and Scientists of various clinical studies and quality improvement projects.
  • Translate research questions into analytic plans, analyze clinical data, conduct valid statistical tests and models, and assist with data visualization.
  • Communicate findings through presentations and preparation of manuscripts.
  • Analyze EEG and other physiological time series data.
  • Lead statistical modeling and analysis of diverse medical data.
  • Development of natural language processing (NLP) tools and algorithms to identify certain data elements within the electronic health record system.
  • Responsible for managing sizeable physiological database.
  • Will have to responsibly use and keep extensive MGB databases for specific CVBHCS projects.
  • Provide mentorship to junior lab members as needed.
  • Responsible for designing projects and identifying equipment needs within a budgetary scope. Ensure that related purchase orders are completed.

Qualifications

SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :

  • Possess a strong working knowledge of SAS, STATA, R, Python, or similar programming languages.

Description

General Summary :

Under the supervision and direction of the Medical Director, Department of Emergency Medicine, the Senior Administrative Director, and the Chief Physician Assistant, the Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for the care of emergency department patients under the direction of the attending physicians and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing Physician Assistant practice.

The PA will obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations to evaluate patients for admission, perform bedside diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, coordinate tests and consultations, implement treatment plans, communicate with referring and consulting physicians, perform patient education, and prepare patients for discharge.

The PA assumes responsibility for patients in accordance with service policies and protocols. New Graduates are not being considered at this time.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Can provide care in all areas of the emergency department, in conjunction with emergency medicine staff. Includes on-going evaluation and care of patients, rounds with staff, and safe and effective sign-out of patients at shift change.

  • Works closely with emergency department patients and their families.
  • Works as a member of the emergency team including attending physicians, residents, nurses, students, and ancillary personnel.
  • Obtains a detailed, accurate medical history and performs a comprehensive physical examination on patients.
  • Performs examination and evaluation of emergency patients and reinforces information presented by the attending physician to the patient and / or family as necessary.

Orders necessary diagnostic tests, consultations, and procedures as indicated or requested by the attending physician. Prescribes medications as necessary.

  • Performs or assists in routine and complex procedures as necessary, including but not limited to splinting, arthrocentesis, relocation of joint dislocations, laceration repairs, abscess incision and drainage, orogastric and nasogastric intubation, nail trephination, insertion of urethral catheters, collection of arterial blood samples, removal of nasal, ear and wound foreign bodies, anterior nasal packing, slit lamp examination, local nerve anesthesia and nerve blocks.
  • Writes complete and comprehensive notes on all patients using the EPIC system in a timely manner and discusses the care of each patient with the attending physician and other consult services that are involved with the care of that patient.

Maintains communications with referring physicians.

  • Performs basic and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) procedures as necessary and directs these efforts until the arrival of an attending physician.
  • Prepares emergency patients for discharge, including patient and family discharge teaching, continuing care and rehabilitation arrangements in conjunction with nursing, writing discharge prescriptions, and confirming primary care or referring physician follow-up.
  • Prescribes medications for emergency patients in accordance with service polices and / or attending physician's instructions.

Uses e-prescribing function in EPIC.

  • Under the direction of the attending physicians, executes a wide range of management plans for emergency patients.
  • Writes formal discharge summaries of emergency patients in EPIC.
  • Participates in the Department of Emergency Medicine educational meetings with students and residents assigned to the service.
  • Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials. Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure.

Identifies own learning needs and goals. Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice / research.

Skills & Competencies :

  • Qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) standards as established by the American Heart Association.
  • Possess the ability to care for critically ill patients with a broad range of medical problems.
  • Possess the maturity, self-confidence, and ability to follow complex patient management plans as directed by the attending physician.
  • Eligible for state and federally controlled substances registration.
  • Diagnose and treat health problems; obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive physical exams, do simple diagnostic tests, prepare a diagnosis and implement treatment procedures for illnesses;

and prescribe medications.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his / her assigned unit.

Qualifications

Licenses :

  • Required : Graduate of an accredited American Medical Association-approved Physician Assistant training program.
  • Required : Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants within one year of hire. Must maintain this certification by completing required 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits every two years.

In addition, PA must demonstrate continued competence by passing a re-certification exam every six years.
