Job Description / Essential Elements : LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE : SCHOOL BUS DRIVERBASIC FUNCTION : Operate a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, field trips and special events using a designated route;

participate in the routine cleaning and servicing of school buses. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES : Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class.

Drive a school bus along a designated route, picking up and discharging students in accordance with established time schedules;

observe legal and defensive driving practices; assure compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations.

• E Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops in accordance with District policies related to disciplining students;
• escort students across streets. E Conduct daily safety inspection of bus; inspect the interior, exterior, brakes, belts, engine and other mechanical systems and safety belts of vehicle;
• report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as required. E Participate in the routine cleaning and servicing of school buses;

fuel and wash buses; check oil and fluid levels; clean windshield and headlamps; maintain bus in clean and safe operating condition.

E Transport students, faculty and parents on field trips or to other events, meeting scheduled departure and arrival times as assigned.

Patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain order and security; unlock doors and school facilities; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms and parking lots.

E Respond to classroom calls of disturbance, behavior problems or related situations; escort students to office for disciplinary action as necessary;

write referrals according to established guidelines as necessary. E Assist in the investigation of illegal activities; search backpacks, cars and lockers for alcohol, weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia and other related articles according to established procedures and District policies.

• E Enforce school and District rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff and property;
• report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus to appropriate personnel. E Observe students during passing periods between classes, lunch and break periods;

Perform journey-level work in the installation, repair, alteration or construction of a variety of interior and exterior electrical work according to specifications and codes.

• E Design, install, maintain and repair bell, clock, intercom and alarm systems, including circuitry, circuit breakers, relays, switches, sensors and related wiring;
• program bell schedules. E Inspect and verify work needed to be performed; plan work from sketches, drawings and blueprints;
