Medical Assistant

Description

Performs medical assisting duties which may include, but are not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, performing phlebotomy and assisting during routine procedures.

Ensures that all patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use. Escorts patients to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab as needed.

Performs appropriate point of care testing, such as lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of testing equipment.

Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.

Monitors, orders and / or maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked and within expiration dates.

Performs initial review of medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners.

May retrieve schedule VI and over the counter medications only, under supervision of licensed providers; is not authorized to perform licensed personnel duties, which include but are not limited to drawing up medications, medication administration or flushing IVs.

Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider. As directed by a clinician, enters / scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR.

During the visit, accurately documents tasks, as they are completed, in OMR to ensure proper billing (Facility Worksheet).

Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents as needed for clinical activities, in accordance with Medical Center standards.

Procures and correlates medical correspondence as directed by department.

Monitors patients and visitors entering, waiting, and leaving the practice. Facilitates timely flow and informs patients and providers of delays in a timely manner.

Acts as liaison between patient and practice staff to ensure optimal flow and service delivery. Ensures waiting room materials are organized and stocked as directed by the department.

May answer and screen telephone calls.

Required Qualifications :

1. High School diploma or GED required.

2. 0-1 years related work experience required.

3. Medical assisting experience required through any of the following areas : MA, CNA (or LNA), EMT, PCT certificate, Associates Degree in Medical Assisting.

Current or former nursing or medical student who has completed at least one clinical rotation. Successful completion of BIDMC in-house competency program in 2019.

4. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Conducts interview follow-up with managers and assists as necessary in the decision-making process.

Consults with the compensation team regarding proper salary offers and potential equity pay or market pay issues.

Coordinates the hiring process including reference and background checks, license verification, verbal offers, scheduling of pre-employment physicals, orientation scheduling and generation of offer and regret letters.

Assures the hiring process is efficient and serves as an appropriate introduction to the organization for new colleagues.

Monitors recruitment activity to assure that the hospitals commitment to diversity and workplace flexibility is being met;

Verifies postings are accurate to attract the best qualified candidates. Consults with leaders to review the posting to accurately reflect the current needs of the department within legal and job description constraints.

Participates in the on-boarding of new employees. Completes edibility to work review, including but not limited to : the CORI or other background check requirements, OIG verification, License and / or certification verification.

Schedules employee health screenings and sign on appointments, ensuring all stakeholders in the process have adequate notice of the appointments and the necessary information.

Books individuals for the appropriate orientation meetings. Creates customized sign on packets. Collects required paperwork and documentation.

Foster's the hospital's culture and PROMISE standards in all efforts and interactions.

Consults with managers on the use of temporary agency staff.

Actively participates as a member of the Human Resources team, participating in HR in-services, projects and activities.

Education :

An Associate’s degree plus 4additional years of recruiting experience or 8 additional years of recruiting experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience : 5+ years recruitment experience

Hospital setting preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities :

PC skills, preferably Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) Google Mail, Customer Service orientation with excellent follow-through.

Knowledge of current federal and state Human Resource related laws and regulations.
