Position Description

  • Reads job repair orders and performs repairs as needed (repairs, preventive maintenance inspections, and troubleshooting of systems).
  • Fabricate and repairs steel components as needed.
  • Plan work procedures to repair conveyor systems.
  • Examines protective guards and makes adjustments to safety devices on trucks.
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections per KM standards
  • Focus on customer service and adherence to safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains conveyors including inspections
  • Building maintenance duties as assigned (including electrical)
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Position Requirements

  • 1+ years of mechanical / welding experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete repairs on various types of transfer equipment
  • Strong work ethic with dependable work history
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with KM's insurance standards
  • Have a steady employment history
  • Successful completion of company background check and drug screen upon job offer.
  • Ability to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as issued by Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

The Chicago Terminal is located in the far southeast corner of Chicago, on the east shore of Lake Calumet within the Illinois International Port District’s Lake Calumet Industrial Corridor.

Approximately a 3 mile drive from I-94 and 103 rd St., and from I-94 and 131 st St., the terminal unloads and loads tank trucks, tank cars, barges, and ships to / from bulk liquid storage tanks that are leased by our Customers.

These bulk liquid products include chemicals, biofuels, aviation deicers, and vegetable oils .

Essential duties and responsibilities :

  • Maintain professional relationships with customers, carriers and other Kinder Morgan employees
  • Properly handle paperwork as defined in the tank truck Operating Procedures to efficiently execute customer tank truck orders in Kinder Morgan's Galahad inventory system and customer inventory systems
  • Maintain high level of attention to detail to ensure there are accurate calculations to avoid serious and costly errors
  • Work closely with multiple departments as a team to avoid conflicts and meet all customers’ needs / multiple demands
  • Must be able to multi-task with shifting priorities
  • Creating plant operating orders, taking phone calls, interfacing with truck drivers, communicating via radio, contacting customers to and resolving conflicts
  • Issue proper placards, seals, SDS, COA and product ID tags to driver
  • Obtain tare and gross weights of tank trucks; calculate quantity of product loaded
  • Create an accurate legal D.O.T. BOL that meets KLM, D.O.T. and customer requirements
  • Accurately complete tank truck movement data in the KM and customer inventory systems while providing great customer service
  • Follow through on customer related issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction
  • Maintain proficiency and accuracy using Customers orders, Kinder Morgan Order creation system (Galahad), and Kinder Morgan's dual verification procedure
  • Handle issues and problems related to the movement of the customers’ product by interfacing with the Senior Dispatcher, Customer Service Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, Dispatch personnel, CSRs and the Sales Department to offer and execute solutions and adjustments in a timely manner
  • Must be able to satisfy all customer requirements as the business demands. Promote teamwork among co-workers to ensure all customers are 100% satisfied in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Must be current in DOT certification / training
  • Monitor Customer inventory to ensure sufficient space / product available to complete requested orders to load or discharge tank truck
  • Prepare daily / weekly / monthly customer reports and or Bills of loading
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College experience is a plus

Job Requirements :

  • Must have at least 3-5 years experience working in the liquids terminal industry
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
  • Experience dispatching, scaling trucks and calculating loads according to DOT regulations
  • Must possess excellent math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and fractions)
  • Proficient in Excel, Data Entry and Outlook
  • Must have the knowledge and ability with systems such as SAP and / or any other inventory systems
  • Must be very detailed oriented and have the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability the multi-task as well as manage the dispatching office with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to perform work as directed by management
  • Individual must possess excellent customer service skills as well as the ability to work from written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules

General Characteristics Performs all aspects of right-of-way and real estate related activities necessary to maintain and protect company's property rights, while negotiating favorable terms to various land and right-of-way related agreements secured on behalf of the company, including the acquisition, relinquishment and modification of easements, fee land purchases, franchise & permit rights, encroachments resolution and the settlements of damage claims.

Essential duties and responsibilities :

  • Identifies land ownership from both company and public records, including current contact information.
  • Researches, reviews, and analyzes land title; identify defects and outlines curative : ability to read title opinions and appraisals.
  • Understands and interprets property legal descriptions, and is able to find properties based on GIS data.
  • Negotiates the acquisition of right-of-way and other property interests, as necessary to accommodate the construction, operation, and maintenance of company facilities, in such a manner to minimize litigation.
  • Understanding of project related needs to include permits, sites, electrical and crossing agreements.
  • Negotiates property damage settlements, as well as the damage release, and loss claims associated with capital projects and day-to-day pipeline operations necessary to maintain company facilities.
  • Analyzes and negotiates franchise agreements with local entities to accommodate the construction, operation and maintenance of company facilities.
  • Assists with the maintenance of such franchises and associated payments.
  • Manages budgetary aspects of costs associated with the aforementioned negotiations, to maintain department and project expectations.
  • Prepares right-of-way related cost estimates associated with land and right-of-way project acquisition.
  • Secures civil permits necessary for the construction and maintenance of company facilities.
  • Reviews, prepares, analyzes, and interprets all Land and Right-of-Way related agreements, deeds, easements, leases, franchises, permits & licenses.
  • Serves as liaison between internal departments, developers, cities, counties, states, and other entities, in support of right-of-way activities.
  • Resolves encroachments, damage claims, landowner complaints and inquiries keeping costs to a minimum for the company.
  • Adheres to all company reporting and requirement standards as requested or as company policy.
  • Creating strong landowner relationships and understanding of your geographical area to better accommodate requests from stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education :

Completed at least two years of college within a relatable degree program, and / or equivalent industry related right-of-way work experience.

Experience / specific knowledge :

Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in performing all aspects of land and right-of-way, with direct experience in the pipeline industry supporting operational and sustaining capital projects and FERC regulated and non-regulated projects;

and having work experience in Texas.

Knowledgeable in all aspects of right-of-way, including project management, acquisition, title, property legal descriptions, permitting, budgeting, cost forecasting, operation, due diligence, public relations, community outreach and solid understanding of general regulatory and legal issues.

Certifications, licenses, registrations :

A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are mandatory.

  • Strong preference for candidate who is bi-lingual (English / Spanish).
