Position Summary :

Reporting to the Patient Access Training Manager. The Core Service Trainer will provide end-user medical insurance training and ongoing end-user support for insurance, customer service, and scheduling protocols.

This position supports the needs of the JHHS and JHUSOM front end registration and scheduling personnel and clinical Patient Service Coordinators (PSC’s).

Other support related to service excellence and telephone based customer service training may be required. Training is continuous and repetitive as needed to adapt to changing insurance requirements.

Duties include providing interactive virtual and hands-on training to new and experienced staff and providing training support to department patient access unit managers.

Training involves detailed teaching on the multiple insurance payers with an emphasis on accurate selection and documentation of insurance codes in addition to identifying benefits, referral and authorization requirements.

The Trainer is responsible for development and ongoing maintenance of all insurance selection and customer service training materials.

The Trainer will meet regularly with the Manager of Training to review progress of staff training, trends in registration completeness and accuracy and customer satisfaction and to evaluate the effectiveness of all related training approaches and materials.

Education :

Bachelor’ degree in education or related field preferred. Directly related experience may substitute for degree (2 years’ experience 1 year education)

Required Work Experience :

Requires 3 years of related work experience at a hospital, academic medical center, or medical insurance company.

Working knowledge of medical insurance, payer contracts and participating agreements is required.

Demonstrated experience training adults in small and large group settings using multiple media formats.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Work requires knowledge of curriculum development for adult learners and demonstrated proficiency in adult education and electronic / computerized training processes.

Position Summary :
