POSITION PURPOSE Data Business Analyst

The Data Business Analyst is responsible for managing, compiling, analyzing, maintaining, and communicating accurate statistics and data recordssupportingIndyGo's current and future operations, planning, and capital projects.

These functions will generally be performed to identify, visualize, and track key performance indicators, measure progress on desired outcomes, andidentify potential efficiencies in agency processes and procedures.

The chosen candidate will work in partnership with others in their respective division and other departments to conduct relevant analyses and develop meaningful data visualizations to support informing specific and general stakeholder groups and the public at large.

Familiarity with, or experience in, analyzing "things that move"as in vehicles or people,isa foundational aspect ofthe work that will be performedin this position.

This position will be required to synthesize and analyze data from multiple internal and external sources, including but not limited to farebox databases, e-ticketing fare collection systems, passenger counters, vehicle location technology, scheduling software, asset inventories, condition assessments, financial systems.

To be successful, this position will need tocreate and maintain script files, query files, internal procedures, new or modified reporting methods, standard operating procedures, or benchmarking criteria.

This position will also be responsible for alerting others to any issues, anomalies, or opportunities they uncover while performing their duties.

This position is also responsible for recommending to the Vice President of Operations / Chief Operating Officer and the operations directors the establishment to improve departmental performance and operational efficiencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform database management functions, including creating methods and processes for ensuring accuracy and integrity in data collection and reporting.

Assist in researching, developing, and designing experiments

Assist in generating and, where possible, automatingsummary reports, online dashboards, and other data visualizations.

Track, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using quantitative and geospatial analytical methods.

Assist with developing or improving methods usedto collect, validate, and analyze data and data streams to ensure theaccuracy and integrity of what is being reported and to identify discrepancies.

Take corrective action or propose solutions when errors and discrepancies are evident.

Assist with evaluatingbusiness processes and workflows to identify where improvements can be made and where training might be needed.

Document customer service business processes to provide training for employees.

Use historical data to research, evaluate, and summarize trends and anomaliesto generate statistical models that assess performance and measure operational costs and efficiencies.

Prepare written updates to be included in monthly board reports in a timely and efficient manner.

Assist customer Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in documenting processes, developing flowcharts, and drafting SOPs.

Identify and describeterminology used in SOP documents so they can be clearly understood by all audiences that reference or use them.

Develop checklists, workflow charts, Gantt charts, communication templates, and desktop guides to augment SOPs.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Assist senior-levelbusiness analysts in their work products and methods.

Respond to ad-hoc requests from internal and external stakeholders for analysis and reports on time.

Provide data and statistical information to support other departments and outside agencies as needed

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE- Data Business Analyst

Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Service Planning, Engineering, Statistics, Geography, Math, Business Administration, Information Technology, Project Management, Data Analytics / Data Science, Accounting, or a related field required.

Master's degree preferred

Experience in writing policies, procedures, or process manuals

Project Management and experience managing technology resources aredesired.

Experience working with APIs (Application Program Interfaces), data warehouse software, or designing data warehouse systems.

Two (2) years of responsible professional analytic experience, including working in data warehouse software, performing SQL queries, Visio, managing dashboards, geospatial mapping, statistical investigation, and report automation through macro instruction preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated skills in performing SQL queries and other database functions.

Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Visio to develop process flowcharts.

Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Project to monitor workflow.

Report automation through macro instruction

Proficiencyin using Microsoft Office, the internet, spreadsheets, databases of varying complexities, andstatistical software packages to perform day-to-day tasks and responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

A strong aptitude for learning new software programs, computer applications, and hardware devices

Demonstrated knowledge of relevant quantitative and qualitative statistical methods to analyze large, complex datasets.

Demonstrated ability to apply sound data visualization strategies

Experience with performance dashboard software or coding for performance dashboards.

Above-average mathematics and statistical skills,specifically, the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of how and why statistical investigations and inference work.

Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage one's tasks and time on the job effectively while at the same time being flexible and adaptable to respond to changing needs or priorities.

Above-average decision-making abilities in a time-sensitive environment.

Process management / improvement experience preferred.

Ability to interact with internal and external constituents in person and through virtual, phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.

Above-average decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Experience with R preferred and geospatial mapping and analysis software packages; experience with ArcGIS, qGIS, Maptitude, or similar applications desired.
