Life Flight Coding Coordinator
Description
The Life Flight Coding Specialist Team codes Air Medical outpatient billing for government and private payers. The Coordinator reviews patient transport records and assigns CPT and ICD 10 codes in compliance with payer guidelines.
This position completes post-service audits and works with providers and other internal departments to ensure accurate assignment of charges and timely billing for the emergent Life Flight transport program.
This position works with providers, payers, hospital case managers and Life Flight leadership to approve and collect for the separate service line of Air Medical Charter, our non-emergent transport system.
This position completes weekly and monthly analytics for the Life Flight service line. Serves as team expert in working with revenue cycle, finance and payor contracting to ensure accuracy and expertise in correct reimbursement.
Job Details
- Serves as a coding expert for Life Flight and coordinating all coding components.
- Researches and resolves issues related to provider and facility related claims. Reviews patient care records to gather information for accurate coding.
- Completes post-service and post-payment audits for claim coding accuracy, appropriateness, and reimbursement.
- Educates internal Life Flight staff regarding documentation needs to ensure appropriate and timely coding and billing
- Serves as member of the Air Medical Charter transport team and gives quotes, receives payment, and ensures all payments are authorized and approved prior to transport.
- Serves in back-up capacity as an Air Medical Charter coordinator family-focused concierge assistance as needed.
- Schedules transports, coordinates all elements of trip manifest working with vendor, LF communication center, Administration and Pilots, Patients, and family members for Life Flights Air Medical Charter program.
Minimum Qualifications
- Certified Professional coding certificate (CPC) through the (AAPC) American Academy of Professional Coders
- Coding experience in a health plans environment or in payment integrity.
- Experience in a role requiring proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Documentation Expert-Outpatient (CDEO®)
- Strong analysis, problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Four years of experience working with government and insurance carrier regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including proficiency in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
- Bachelor's degree in Communication, Coding, or Business field
Schedule
- Hybrid-remote, Business hours M-F
- Rotating weekend and holiday coverage as needed

Controller
Description
The Operational Controller works with Life Flight leadership and the pilot-in-command to ensure that each flight is planned and operated safely and in accordance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Intermountain Life Flight operation specifications, and general operations manual requirements, policies and procedures.
Job Essentials
- Obtains, records and disseminates to pilots conditions that may be considered hazardous or potentially hazardous, including but not limited to airport and runway conditions, helipad or landing zone conditions, weather conditions and NOTAMS (Notices to Airman).
- Determines whether each assigned crewmember is qualified and eligible to serve as a required crewmember in the aircraft and type of operation to which the crewmember is assigned.
- Determines whether the aircraft assigned for use is airworthy under Intermountain Life Flight's FAA-approved maintenance, inspection or airworthiness program, as appropriate.
- Follows the flight and its related activities for each Intermountain Life Flight aircraft. This includes obtaining the minimum flight plan information, as required by 14 CFR Part 91, for each flight prior to lift off, maintaining real time knowledge of the location of each aircraft, obtaining timely position reports, and the reporting of overdue aircraft in accordance with 14 CFR 135.79.
- Completes documentation for all above areas.
- Assists the pilot in determining whether a flight or series of flights can be initiated, conducted, or terminated safely and in accordance with the authorizations, limitations, and procedures approved in the operations specifications, general operations manual, and the appropriate regulations.
- Identifies, documents and directs rotor wing pilots to remote scene locations, using and fully understand all mapping tools in order to determine distance, heading, and latitude / longitude.
Follows all FCC regulations regarding the type and manner of appropriate radio communications.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years experience in an aviation related field (e.g. private pilot license or greater, flight dispatcher, aviation communications specialist, etc).
- Experience with and general working knowledge of computers and basic computer programs.
- Excellent communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current commercial pilot's license
- Current airline transport pilot certificate
- Private pilot's license
