Job Requirements :
- High school diploma / GED required
- 3+ years' experience in a medical office setting.
- Medical terminology required; transcription experience a plus.
- Strong business writing and spelling skills.
- Maintains composure and patience in difficult situations.
- Provides pleasant, accurate responses to callers.
- Proficiency, efficiency and accuracy required.
- Self-motivated and work well independently and as a team.
- Multi-tasking and prioritizing.

Job Responsibilities :
- Handle telephone calls from patients, referral sources, physicians, attorneys, etc.
- Take accurate messages and relays to physicians.
- Maintain physicians' academic & professional calendar; communicate schedule changes to others.
- Process mail, faxes, and emails.
- Accurately route and label medical records and documents into patient accounts in EHR.
- Respond to patient emergent / urgent matters in a timely manner. Directs patients to clinical staff, as necessary.
- Ensure delivery of transcribed office notes to appropriate parties (referral sources).
- Track status of dictations and surgical billing to ensure completion by physician.
- Compile surgical notes with billing and route to business office for processing.
- Prepare fee letters, process pre-pays and prepare correspondence for physicians to answer / respond to.
- Handle and manage physicians’ hospital credentialing / re-credentialing for privileges.
- Maintain up to date physician CV’s.
- Assist with physician academic meeting registrations and lodging.
- Assist with academic outlines and presentations (MS Word and Power Point).
- Maintain and protect patient information, in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Handle additional administrative duties, as requested or assigned.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for providing medical care as delegated by the physician.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES
Conducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
- Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
- Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
- Counsels patient / family on preventative health care.
- Documents patient information and care in medical record and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program.
- National certification from National Commission on Certifications of PAs. To maintain their national certification, PAs must log hours of continuing medical education every two years and sit for a recertification every six years.
- State PA license also required.
- Current CPR certificate required.
EXPERIENCE
Four years of healthcare experience prior to applying to PA program, plus one year of experience as PA, preferably in clinic setting.
ABILITIES
- Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of the dependent medical practitioner.
- Ability to develop health education programs and materials.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team.
SKILLS
- Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
- Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referral
- Skill in evaluating and revising care plans based on patient changes.
