HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services (HSVS) Nuevo Camino program is dedicated to providing 38 unaccompanied minors, ages 5-12, with a supportive, nurturing environment through transitional foster homes, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in the East Brooklyn section of New York City.

Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR.

The Nuevo Camino Recruiter is primarily responsible for recruiting, training, and licensing foster homes intended to work with Unaccompanied Children in Transitional Foster Care (TFC).

This individual will also be responsible for coordinating TFC foster care placements, while also overseeing foster care parent orientation and training, retention, and advocacy, and become involved in community foster parent coalitions, or relevant groups which promote sustainability in TFC placements.

Responsibilities :

  • Participate in team meetings and / or individual supervision to review ongoing foster home issues to ensure families’ needs are met.
  • Re-license homes, complete annual evaluations, coordinate transfers, relocations, and closures of foster homes
  • Conduct post-placement follow-ups on foster homes.
  • Work with the assigned case manager and supervisors at the respective site
  • Maintain current available homes and on-call list for future referrals.
  • Coordinate the functions of the respite program and facilitate substitute care in accordance with state and contract policy, when needed.
  • Conduct the orientation pre-service training for foster home requirements.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and facilitate ongoing foster parent training programs.
  • Serve as a consultant to caseworkers regarding foster home issues or problems.
  • Recruit and license foster homes, including conducting training and monitoring the training progress of homes.
  • Participate in foster parent activities and meetings.
  • Assist in coordinating special events, such as but not limited to the Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner
  • Develop written materials for foster parents, such as a handbook, brochures, and other informational material.
  • Plan and participate in the annual Foster / Adopt conferences.
  • Evaluate issues of recruitment, retention, and advocacy of foster families
  • Investigate complaints on foster homes and work cooperatively with law enforcement and child protective services, as needed.
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call schedule rotation when needed.
  • Promptly respond to emergency placement needs outside of normal business hours.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or equivalent
  • 1 year of similar experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish, required
  • Driver’s License required
  • MAPP Certification
  • Prior experience working in foster care or child welfare, a plus.
  • Demonstrate ted ability with clinical, interviewing, perceptual, diagnostic, and family assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well and work well with others.

Description

Under direct supervision, the Custodian will provide specialized janitorial services and light maintenance work for the program’s main location.

The position ensures that the facility is cleaned / sanitized throughout the day, and ensures that the facility and its grounds remain hazard free.

The Custodian will ensure the opening and closing of the facility at the designated times. The Custodian will further ensure that the facility maintains compliance with applicable building and funder regulatory requirements.

Finally, the Custodian must be skilled in specific tasks, as defined herein.

Responsibilities :

  • Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoids gossip and negative discussions. Remains flexible and adapts to change.
  • Serves as a role model for program participants, abides by the dress code, and conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
  • Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences between program participants and staff.
  • Participates in in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external training and workshops at the direction of management.
  • Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision, and values of the agency.

Personally, adheres to organizational mission, vision, and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.

Maintains and repairs buildings’ interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as instructed, to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

Ensures hazard prevention and compliance with applicable regulations and codes.

  • Conducts daily facilities checks of both interior and exterior. Reports need and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders.
  • Works off of an automated work order system, from which tasks are assigned by the supervisor.
  • Clean facility daily. Sanitizes all restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and offices throughout the workday. This includes, but it not limited to wiping down surfaces, cleaning windows and windowsills, sweeping / mopping / vacuuming floors, scrubbing toilets, sinks, and all tile, cleaning vents, etc.
  • Deep Cleaning tasks, as required. These tasks include stripping / waxing of floors, shampooing carpets, deep cleaning refrigerators, etc.

These tasks will be assigned on a weekly, monthly, semi-annual, annual, or seasonal basis, as appropriate.

  • Light maintenance duties, repairs, and improvements, as assigned. This includes but is not limited to light carpentry, painting, unclogging drains, stopping minor leaks, electrical (installing ballasts, and light fixtures), install / repairing locks.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and / or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
  • Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  • Moves assembles / disassembles furniture and other items as needed.
  • Performs snow removal & salting, when necessary.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; recommends orders for supplies for supervisor approval.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Qualifications

Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED required, Associate's Degree preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish required
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • NYS Driver's License, required
