About the Role The Director, Finance provides leadership and oversight for the finance, accounting, human resources administration and resource management operations of the organization and ensures compliance with all local, state and federal fiscal requirements.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all aspects of the finance & strategy department including the development / administration of accounting and financial policies, the development and management of the annual budget and quarterly reforecast, resource planning and management, accounting, insurance, internal controls, contract management, payroll administration for staff, and tax requirements.

The Director, Finance reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will manage a small functional team and external contractors.

Primary Responsibilities General Accounting and Reporting Oversee and manage all accounting activities and accounting records needed for the preparation of the financial statements Oversee accounting system standards and internal controls while maintaining and preparing all financial records, statements and reports in compliance with GAAP standards Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.

Interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems, financial performance, and reporting Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, ensuring timely delivery by internal deadlines Coordinate all activities related to the annual audit and Form 990 filings Serve as the primary administrative contact for organization’s banking and credit card relationships Cultivate strong day-to-day financial health through the creation and execution of fiscal management policies and practices, as well as training and partnership with colleagues, as necessary Continuously evaluate and seek opportunities to leverage technology to expedite routine functions and increase the transparency of accounting and budget / resource management Communicate compellingly about the impact and context surrounding key financial information to a variety of audiences (both internal and external) in a manner in which the information is both understandable and actionable Strategic Planning and Resource Management Collaborate with Good Reason Houston leadership and staff in development of strategic priorities and lead the financial and resource planning component of annual planning Prepare the annual operating budget and cash flow projections Manage monthly budget vs.

actual reporting and variance analysis and quarterly rolling forecast updates Implement regular progress monitoring tool(s) and reporting aligned with strategic priorities and budget Partner with the Advancement team on restricted grant development and management Lead the contract management process for Good Reason Houston’s complex network of partnerships Human Resources Administration Engage with the organization’s PEO and providers to administer accurate payroll and employee benefits programs Process bi-weekly payroll and 401K contributions Review and administer employee benefits renewals in partnership with PEO.

Collaborate with People Operations team to support employee onboarding and offboarding Complete market compensation and cost analyses, as needed Assist with the implementation and management of the organization’s privacy and document retention policies Other Design and build reports, dashboards and other tools supporting transparent communication that provides real-time information for senior leadership and Board of Directors around fiscal oversight, financial health and budgetary planning Prepare and present quarterly update materials for key Committees of the Board of Directors Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting nonprofit institutions Manage and develops department personnel and external contractors as needed Other duties as assigned by Chief Financial Officer Our Team Along with our core beliefs, the traits listed below were generated by the team to capture what it looks like in action when operating at our best.

Qualifications and Key Attributes Bachelor’s degree required, relevant advanced degree preferred 6-8 years of demonstrated accounting, financial management, analysis and budgeting experience Experience with non-profit accounting and accounting systems preferred Excellent Excel, PowerPoint, writing and verbal communication skills required (comprehension and expression) Detail orientation with exceptional analysis and presentation skills with accuracy that reflects a big picture perspective Proficient in utilizing and maximizing functionality of data systems and tools and analysis Strong critical thinking, deductive reasoning and problem solving skills with demonstrated sound judgement and decision-making Genuine excitement for the mission of Good Reason Houston Skills : Problem-solving orientation and solutions focus Oral and written comprehension and expression Judgment and decision-making Critical thinking Coordination Deductive reasoning Working at Good Reason Houston Good Reason Houston offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position.

New hires are offered a salary depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. Benefits offered include 401(k) (automatic 3% employer contribution), life, medical, dental and vision insurance packages.

Each employee accrues 35 paid time off days per calendar year in addition to the 19 paid holidays per year. Good Reason Houston is an office-based organization, but allows for virtual work on Mondays and Fridays.
