Data Center Facility Operations Director - Boston, MA

We are looking for an experienced Data Center Facility Operations Director to support multiple data centers. The Director will be responsible for managing the overall quality and service of the operation and maintenance of multiple critical facility infrastructure systems in accordance with company's policies and procedures.

These Data Centers are a 7x24x365 a year operation. The director will work with the data center facility managers in maintaining the relationships with various customers.

The successful candidate will oversee the work performed by in-house data center facility manager to ensure each site is meeting the high and dynamic standards of their internal customers.

The successful candidate will also provide consistent leadership and support through planning, communicating, and managing a team of professionals responsible to deliver data center facility services.

Responsibilities include the delivery of quality and consistent services and support as established by the Corporation while satisfying unique customer requirements, managing issue resolution and ensuring proper performance reporting of key metrics for the region, establishing goals and objectives for the region based on strategic and business plans of the corporation.

Responsibilities :

Performing periodic site walk-throughs in order to ensure Company’s procedures (SOPS and MOPS) and standards are followed.

This includes assisting the Facilities Manager, Technicians and any other contracted vendors

  • Identifying any vulnerabilities while overseeing 3rd Party Critical Facilities onsite team
  • Communicating the status of the operation process with senior management and onsite customers
  • Site acceptance and commissioning of the facility to ensure the site meets the superior and dynamic standards of Company Standards
  • Acting as liaison and coordinating efforts between the contracted vendors and the onsite customers.
  • Oversee the development of procedures / Method of Procedures (MOPs) for the DC build in addition to approving MOPs for data hall work
  • Participating in the interview process for prospective candidates applying to this critical facility
  • Auditing installed data center components. This audit will be used to verify the completion of the job scope by the vendor in addition to verifying the design documentation for the build-out and ongoing operations of the data hall space
  • Provide strategic / tactical leadership with a background in best practices related to operations for performance and reliability on a variety of state of the art critical systems such as : medium voltage switchgear, diesel generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, fire detection / suppression;

building monitoring systems; etc.

  • Supervise the on-site management the facility manager, facility technicians, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work is performed according to established practices and procedures
  • Manage Customer Relationship and act as escalation point of contact for the company at this site
  • Manage the establishment of performance benchmarks, conduct analyses and prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility operations and maintenance
  • Work with business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency
  • Review MOPs and SOPs for all work on critical data center facility equipment
  • Ensure that a constant state of readiness in support of the mission goal of 99.999% uptime

Qualifications :

  • 10-15+ years of data center facility operations and maintenance experience.
  • 5 years leadership experience in data center facility operations.

  • Solid Understanding of Critical Electrical and Mechanical / HVAC equipment

This key role is focused on safety performance, compliance, and continuous improvement within my client's operational data centers.

The successful candidate will develop and support the implementation of EHS procedures. They will be a technical resource for the Critical Operations team members and involved in the oversight and planning, as it relates to the environment, health, and safety, for critical maintenance and special projects.

They will create goals for continually improving all aspects of data center safety to ensure we are minimizing risks and protecting people.

Responsibilities :

  • Implement health and safety standards and principles, policies, and practices including but not limited to; safety management systems, training, risk assessments and applicable safety regulations
  • Conduct health and safety audits of live operational data centers to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements as well as life safety requirements
  • Work with Facility Operations to implement effective management processes for high-risk activities including electrical safety, lockout / tagout, fall protection, and contractor management
  • Support the EHS aspects of commissioning data centers and the hand-off from construction to operations

Qualifications :

Reporting to SVP of Design and Construction, this position will lead all contractual negotiations and delivery of all electrical and mechanical equipment that goes into construction of data center capacity.

This individual will define our procurement strategy, create relationships with major equipment manufacturers and ensure timely supply of equipment at industry competitive prices.

Responsibilities :

  • This individual will manage the team that drives equipment submittals from cradle to grave of the product(s) assigned to their team.
  • Individual will have previous experience managing multiple single line diagrams, product specifications and driving OFCI Equipment submittals to closure (approval);
  • RFIs and RFQs for the sourcing of equipment for low voltage switchgear, medium switchgear, transformers, electrical skids, and other data center equipment systems as needed;
  • This group will serve as a liaison between our supply chain partners to manage Engineering change orders, lead-times and costs are managed and communicated properly.

  • Provides leadership of all field related MEP mission critical work activities and coordinates with Construction Project Manager and Subcontractors for proper execution.
  • Keeps all relative parties informed of project’s progress throughout the life of the project
  • Detailed understanding of all MEP systems to include size up, costs, scheduling timeline, quality control focus points, system start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income / expenses) to protect the company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client

Qualifications :

Responsibilities :

  • Participate in daily commissioning activity meetings which services include :
  • Equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; Development of standard operating procedures (SOP's) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs);

Comprehensive Commissioning documentation

Prepare commissioning test procedures and reports; Develop and maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklist, and other tools to track commissioning projects;

Write comprehensive reports which include the following sections : recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation and maintenance manuals

  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to commissioning
  • Integrated system testing; Load Bank Testing; Compilation of all testing procedure results
  • Develop and administer functional tests for various systems, such as : electrical distribution systems, UPS, standby generators, etc.
  • System Assembly; Commission plan preparation ; Follow company QC process and procedures
  • Help lead and manage any external resources; Schedule and direct periodic commissioning meetings; Attend construction and coordination meetings if required for the project ;
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed; Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians;

Interact with all facets of the company : engineering, design, etc.

Verify results of test reports; Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment

Qualifications :

  • 4-10+ years experience with Electrical Power Systems
  • Bachelor's / Associates Degree as an Electrical Engineer a plus
  • Experience commissioning enterprise data centers, colos, and hyperscale companies
  • A / E experience working in complex facilities or mission critical projects a big plus
  • Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must
  • Experience with Light AutoCAD for minor tweaks for any design plans a MUST
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
  • Electrical equipment testing experience in a Critical Facilities / facility environment
  • Previous experience conducting Level 1-5 Commissioning
  • Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects

We are looking for a Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager to support critical facility construction projects.

They will be responsible for all aspects of managing a data center construction project. This will include providing leadership to contractors and vendors associated with the delivery of company projects.

Project assignments for the most part will be regional. The candidate will have overall responsibility for the delivery of assigned projects on budget on time and assurance that the project scope and quality meet Company Design Standards and the objectives set for the project.

The successful candidate will have to be exceptionally organized and be great with back office work (change orders, budgets, paperwork driven, etc.)

Responsibilities :

  • Maintain liaison with various contractors and vendors in order to manage the day to day activities that impact the delivery of company’s critical facilities construction projects
  • Ensure that all day to day project responsibilities are met by the contractors and vendors on the project
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Responsible for negotiating contracts with vendors as necessary. Responsible for creating and managing project schedules
  • Put together Project plans size up, costs, budget, scheduling, timeline, manage change orders, etc.
  • Assists with reporting and RFPs to Contractors
  • Deliver Built to Suit projects with a heavy emphasis on value-engineering
  • Drive Company Standards uniformly as it regards to Project Delivery by all project participants on all projects
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income / expenses) to protect the company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client

  • Act as key Liaison with managers of all company departments

Qualifications :

  • BA / BS a plus
  • Experience managing Data Center Construction Projects as an Owner or as a General Contractor
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the Data Center Construction Industry
  • Belong and Attend professional organizations such as AFCOM, ASHRAE, 7x24 exchange, PTC, DataCenterDynamics / DCD, Uptime, iMasons, Bisnow etc.

Mechanical Engineer - New York, NY
