Covanta Fairfax seeks a dedicated Maintenance Mechanic and Welder who will be responsible for performing various aspects of mechanical maintenance on rotation machinery and equipment, boilers and support systems, cranes, structural supports and equipment, piping systems, and more.

Maintenance Mechanic and Welder may inspect, adjust alignment, replace or rebuild pumps, replace fan bearings, replace motors, repair screw conveyors, repair soot blowers, install and modify pipelines and assist in the modification and addition of plant projects.

Qualified individual will also be proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW weld procedures. Certification under Covanta D-1-1 (ASME Structural Welder) is required within 90 days of employment.

Certification under Covanta R-1 (ASME Code Welder ) is required within one (1) year of employment.

To qualify, the Maintenance Mechanic Welder must have at least five (5) years experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and a High School Diploma (or equivalent).

Documentation of welding experience to include previous certifications are required.

Formal technical, military, and / or apprenticeship training is desired.

Proficient SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding abilities required and qualifying as a NBIC code welder within one (1) year of employment.

An understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems is required.

The Mechanic should be able to interpret mechanical drawings to assist in making repairs.

Safety is a condition of employment for Covanta employees, and as such, any candidate must have a dedication to personal safety for themselves and their coworkers.

Strong leadership and motivational skills, valid drivers license, work in close quarters and confined spaces, climb ladders and structures, tolerate heights, tolerate high temperatures, and lift up to 50 pounds also required.

Mechanic must be available to work overtime, weekends, nights, holidays and respond to call-ins as plant operations dictate.

Work will include repairs to pressure parts and overlaying tubes while working in confined spaces and be able to work in extreme weather conditions and at heights.

Upon acceptance of the position, the employee will be enrolled in a formal Maintenance Training program with deadlines and goals that are expected to be met as a condition of employment.
