CNA has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Underwriting Leader to join our team. This person will lead and direct a dynamic underwriting team of five and is accountable for business results through overall management, profitability, and business development of our Allied Healthcare Facilities Segment.
In conjunction with senior management, works within the highest limits of authority. This individual will work closely with our branch located team and internal business partners (claim, actuarial, risk control, etc.
to grow the Allied Healthcare Facilities (West region) book of business.
JOB DESCRIPTION :
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines :
Directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
Coaches, leads and develops underwriters and directs the development of underwriting training.
Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of underwriting policy, marketing and business strategy.
Develops and implements operating plans for enhancing the business and meeting strategic objectives.
Reviews and directs the application of underwriting policy and pricing for all risks within an industry segment.
Will have the ability to market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community.
Develops and maintains agency and / or broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
Reports business progress to senior management.
Keeps current on state / territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May represent the company in industry trade groups.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Ability to effectively lead, coach and develop an underwriting group.
2. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
3. Senior level technical and business management acumen, underwriting skill and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.
4. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams.
5. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
6. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
7. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. MBA or its equivalent in experience. Professional designations preferred.
2. Typically a minimum of ten years of underwriting experience with a proven track record of results.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the standard base pay range for this role is $78,500 to $301,400 annually.
Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.

This role is remote in the state of NC or SC. Territory will be Western NC and SC. Travel will be approximately 50%-70% overnight depending on geographic location of candidate.
Candidate MUST live within the territory. Company car is provided!
Under moderate technical direction, manages and builds agency relationships throughout assigned territory by conducting regular traveling sales calls.
Generates premium production, conducts public relations, increases brand and product awareness, and projects a professional corporate image.

1. Promotes and sells all CNA Surety products and services.
2. Conducts regular sales calls to all agencies in assigned territory to manage and enhance relationships and brand loyalty with goal of increased business retainage and new premium growth.
3. Obtains and reports agency and market intelligence, and other market trends, in assigned territory. Collaborates with Underwriting on market alignment, sales and marketing plans, and other opportunities with goal of premium growth in territory.
4. Achieves premium and growth goals for assigned territory.
5. Prospects for new agency appointments or other business opportunities in assigned territory.
6. Educates and trains agencies on automation services such as Portal / bONdLINEDirect Bill and ePay.
7. Monitors and reports on legislative activities that may affect operations of the company.
8. Assist with accounts receivable collections in the territory.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Solid knowledge of insurance industry practices as it applies to business development and determining business opportunity.
2. Ability to produce outstanding sales results.
3. Solid verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with internal and external business partners.
4. Creativity in resolving issues and problems.
5. Ability to work independently and remotely in the assigned territory to achieve results with limited supervision.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
2. Typically a minimum of five years experience in sales and / or marketing.
