Job Description

The Position

THIS IS AN UNCLASSIFIED, NON-CIVIL SERVICE, HOURLY POSITION WITH NO MEDICAL, DENTAL OR ACCRUED LEAVE BENEFITS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AB - HEALTHY WORKPLACE HEALTHY FAMILY ACT.

Under general supervision, on a temporary, seasonal and / or part-time basis, this classification performs general labor to supplement the permanent City workforce when the need occurs.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following :

Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

Picks up litter and empties trash receptacles in City park facilities.

Digs, clears brush, pulls weeds, rakes and performs miscellaneous gardening duties in and around City facilities and grounds.

May operate small landscape power equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, and blowers.

Performs custodial maintenance of restrooms and community building facilities at City parks.

Drives automobiles, pickup trucks or other light vehicles to City buildings and facilities in carrying out the duties of their position.

May set up tables, chairs and equipment.

May perform manual collection of refuse, recycling or green waste, including street litter can servicing, illegally dumped items, bulky items or Christmas tree collection.

Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of this position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.

Drives on City business as necessary.

Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of and skill in : Exceptional customer service practice.

Ability to :

Provide exceptional customer service to those utilizing Community Services & Parks Department services.

Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Establish smooth working relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Load and unload heavy supplies and / or equipment from a truck or other elevated surface.

Read, write, communicate effectively and comprehend directions in English.

Other Characteristics

Willingness to :

Work overtime as required.

Work holidays and weekends as required.

Assume responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment.

Experience

Six months experience in landscape or building maintenance is desirable.

Education / Training

No specific requirement.

License(s) / Certification(s)

Valid California Class C driver's license.

Selection Process

EVALUATION OF APPLICATION : Submitted application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.

ORAL INTERVIEW : (Weight of %) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.

Candidates must pass each exam component with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.

TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Evaluation will be based on the candidate's education and experience as related to the position.

Any examination scheduled will be to evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills for the position.

The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and / or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination.
