Physician Assistant Acute- Orthopedics
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for providing safe, comprehensive and compassionate clinical care
- Assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes
- Seeks and integrates the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant / child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions
- Applies evidence based medicine pertinent to neonatal / pediatric populations
- Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability
- Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and to improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams and developing programs
- Constant consideration of childs development, familys readiness and resources when translating health information, education and support
- Demonstrate understanding of internal and external rules, regulations and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification and billing compliance
- Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed. Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures / specialty skills
- Serves as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient / family experience possible
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed
- Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice
- Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements / CPT coding regulations
- Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age and adolescent patients
- Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars
- Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines
- Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university in the Physician Assistants program required
- Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatrics / neonatal preferred
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS :
- Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (e.g., APRN, PA, RN,) required
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is required
- Current and valid Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) required, within 6 months of hire
- Maintain active Federal DEA license required. Must obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Current and valid nationally recognized APP board certification required

Staff RN - Float Seasonal Program- DAYS / Inpatient Nursing Float Pool
Essential Functions
Conducts individualized age-specific patient / family assessments according to defined unit scope and nursing practice standards, appropriate collaborative problems (CPGs) / nursing diagnoses (NDs), or protocols.
Individualized refers to the patients developmental, cognitive, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational / family influences and physical / medical care needs.) Admission Assessment :
- Collects and documents data related to patients individualized care.
- Demonstrates age-specific competency in assessment of patients by the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
- Assesses patient / family need for education and uses an individualized approach in delivery style.
- Assesses family expectations for, and involvement in the assessment and continuous care or treatment of the patient.
- Identifies nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and / or protocols for each patient, based on assessment, at the time of admission.
- Assess and interprets patient data upon arrival at the referring hospital. Shift Assessment / Reassessment :
- Performs reassessment based on unit standards, CPGs / NDs, protocols and changes in patient condition. Communicates changes to appropriate persons (MD, CNC, family) as indicated.
- Develops individualized patient / family plan of care using CPG / NDs, and practice guidelines / protocols to meet identified needs.
Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on care, education, discharge needs.)
- Utilizes assessment data from the healthcare team to individualize appropriate goals and actions for the patient, including collaboration with the family and the healthcare team.
- Utilizes individualized assessment data to develop the patient / familys plan of care.
- Formulates goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
- Revises plan of care based on patients condition, interdisciplinary input, and family needs.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient interventions based on assessments / reassessments. Uses available child care partners to support patient care needs as appropriate.
- Implements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized patient / family plan of care and patient condition / needs.
- Oversees that the nursing and interdisciplinary plan of care / goals are coordinated, implemented, evaluated, and revised as needed.
Identifies the need for interdisciplinary involvement / outside resources and follows through. Uses appropriate resources (CNC, CNS / Educator, PCM, MD, etc) to ensure that clinical outcomes are achieved.
- Incorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and in analyzing patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments.
- Demonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age specific needs.
- Provides and / or coordinates with other disciplines patient / family education according to identified care needs, considering assessment of patient / familys readiness to learn.
- Documentation reflects accurate assessment / evaluation, modification, and patients response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions / procedures.
- Entries in the medical record follow hospital policy (i.e., date, time, use of appropriate abbreviations, and legibility).
- Documentation is completed within established timeframes including, but not limited to : Admission Assessment form, daily Patient Flowsheet, Peripheral IV Flowsheet, Family Education Record, and Interdisciplinary Goals.
- Reviews and updates computerized care plan to accurately reflect the plan of care.
- Completes computerized documentation within established timeframes, including, but not limited to : Medication Administration Record, Allergies, Patient Information, etc.
- Completes and verifies accurate order entry in the computerized care plan.
- Ensures that discharge instructions clearly state patient care needs after discharge.
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications
- Associate's Degree from an accredited school of nursing Required or
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of nursing Required
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience Required and
- Experience with pediatric patients Preferred and
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a float pool Required and
- Previous experience with EPIC Preferred
Skills and Abilities

- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and / or Compact State Licensure Required and
- BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Preferred and
- Current and valid certification in nursing specialty Preferred
