Program Description
The Inn Enhanced Shelter Program provides 24 / 7 enhanced shelter and related services for adults experiencing homelessness.
Referrals to the program come from King County Coordinated Entry program. Participants are typically people who been identified as high needs adults who are eligible for supportive permanent housing.
Many clients have chronic and acute mental illness, active addiction issues, and / or trauma. This is a low-barrier, harm reduction program.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine scheduled cleaning duties : sweep, mop, and wash walls. Clean bathrooms, food serving area, and other common areas to building standards.
- Restock soap, paper towel dispensers and other supplies. Assist with communicating inventory needs.
- Pack, label, and store previous client belongings.
- Prepare vacant rooms for use including packing up items and thorough cleaning according to prescribed procedures.
- Maintain clean exterior of building.
- Remove garbage and recycling from building following all safe trash removal protocol. Wash trash cans.
- Regularly lift and carry supplies, donations, furnishings, etc.
- Assist Advocacy staff members in floor checks and unit inspections as needed.
- Assist Advocate and Case management staff in ensuring occupied units meet health and quality standards. As identified, participate in joint clean up and / or hoarding safety efforts.
- Enforce building and program rules including bar policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
- Observe / follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy.
- Alert management team members to non-maintenance and housekeeping areas of concern.
- Be willing and able to be on-call after hours / weekends for emergency security / building related calls.
- Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets or complete ADP entries on schedule.
- Attend trainings required of employees and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.

- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Conditions
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material.
Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, bedbugs, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance, building temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, and odors.
Working conditions include interruptions, crisis response, and regular interactions with individuals who are dealing with issues of chemical dependency and / or mental illness, or are experiencing anger or frustration.

- Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation and face-to-face conversation, door bells and emergency alarms.

- Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor living spaces and identify concerns that require staff response.

- Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
- Mobility / dexterity of hands / arms to enable keying into a unit or other locked area as well as using computers and other office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.

Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington.
Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region. It operates 24-hour / 7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.
to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. guests with meeting their goals.
Provides security and promotes good community relationships in and around the Shelter. Monitors guest behaviors and ensures all policies and procedures are followed.
Provides information and referral services to guests and other homeless individuals.
Responsibilities
- Greets guests coming into the day center to wait for the dorm to open and directs them to the waiting area
- Monitors behaviors in and around the Nativity House and parking lot assuring policies and procedures are enforced.
- Contacts people loitering in the parking lot or immediate area and explains and enforces agency policy regarding loitering.
- Patrols parking lot, 13th street, Yakima Avenue and 15th street to ensure the safety of guests, residents, and businesses.
- Respond to disruptive behavior (includes fights, drug dealing, etc.).
- Provide behavioral management for a diverse population including individuals with chemical dependency and / or mental health issues.
This includes setting limits, encouraging desired behaviors, assigning consequences and helping people think through their actions and decisions.
- Write timely and behaviorally descriptive Ban Reports when guests exhibit disruptive behavior.
- Respond to guests who are in crisis or having medical emergencies.
- Provide services, resources, and information to guests.
- Develop supportive relationship with guests by using motivational interviewing strategies, providing an informal listening ear for guests experiencing difficulties.
- Work collaboratively with the other Nativity House staff, mental health team and social worker to promote behavioral changes in guests.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case staffing meetings as needed to coordinate services for guests.
- Make contact with businesses in the patrol area to form and maintain positive community relations.
- Maintain written and computerized records.
- Coordinates with the evening Nativity House staff for back up to deal with challenging situations.
- Coordinates with Nativity House staff that is monitoring the security cameras.
- Utilizes the Tacoma Police Department as needed.
- Communicate with other team members throughout the shift to make sure everyone is aware of any ongoing issues.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.
- Proof of negative TB test within 12 months
