As part of the Banner Health Revenue Cycle Team, there are opportunities within that team. We specialize in Inpatient coding on the facility side.

We do not do pro-fee coding. We are a team of 4 Inpatient Coding Managers who cover for each other and report to the Director of Acute Care Coding.

These positions offer opportunities for growth both within the coding department, including roles such as Coding Educator, Coding Quality Analyst and supervisory / management opportunities.

Additionally, as part of the Revenue Cycle team, there are opportunities within that team as well.

Looking for a motivated, experienced Banner Staffing Services - Complex Inpatient Facility Acute Care HIMS Coder -Remote Medical Coder, with CPS or CCS and / or RHIT or RHIA Certifications, to join our talented Acute Care HIMS Coding Team.

Candidate should have experience coding all service lines including, but not limited to; Trauma, ICU, Cardiac, Transplant, Orthopedics, High-Risk OB, NICU, and more.

Must have ICD-10-PCS coding experience. Ideally 3 or more years of experience coding in a facility coding setting (physician or pro-fee coding for IP is not needed).

Our IP coding expectation is 1.2 charts an hour when coding the mid-range charts ( $100,000-249,000) and 1.9 charts per hour when coding both mid-range and low-dollar ( less than $100,000) charts while maintaining a DRG accuracy rate of 95% or higher.

We use the number of accounts for specific patient types and specialties in combination with the Case Mix Index and case financial information to formulate performance to Banner standards, which are currently more stringent than most national standards identified.

Meeting Accounts Receivable goals supports Banner Financial goals. In most of our Coding roles, there is a Coding Assessment given after each successful interview.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides coding and abstracting for mid-tiered complexity range of acute care services at all Banner hospitals. Reviews diagnosis and diagnostic information and codes and abstracts diagnoses and / or procedures on inpatient records using ICD CM and PCS coding classification systems.

Completes MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignments on inpatient records as appropriate. Ensures ethical and accurate coding in accordance with all regulatory requirements and AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Analyzes medical information from medical records. Accurately codes diagnostic and procedural information in accordance with national coding guidelines and appropriate reimbursement requirements.

Consults with medical providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information and to determine appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes.

Provides timely and accurate coding in accordance to department specific productivity and quality standards thorough assignment of ICD CM and PCS codes, MS-DRGs, APR-DRGs and POAs for mid-tiered complexity range of acute care services at all Banner hospitals.

2. Abstracts clinical diagnoses, procedure codes and documents other pertinent information obtained from the patient encounter.

Seeks out missing information and creates complete records, including items such as disease and procedure codes, discharge disposition, date of surgery, attending physician, consulting physicians, surgeons and anesthesiologists.

Refers inconsistent patient treatment information or documentation to coding support tech, coding quality analyst or coding manager for clarification / additional information for accurate code assignment.

3. Provides coding quality assurance for medical records. For all assigned records and / or areas assures compliance with coding rules and regulations according to regulatory agencies for state Medicaid plans, Center for Medicare Services (CMS), Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), as well as company and applicable professional standards.

Ability to address related and complex matters independently with regard to interpretation of coding guidelines.

4. May provide mentoring for less experienced staff members.

5. Works under general supervision using specialized expertise in the subject matter. Works within a set of defined rules.

Ability to address related and complex matters independently with regard to interpretation of coding guidelines prior to referral to senior manager, educator or Coding Quality Analyst.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma / GED or equivalent working knowledge and specialized formal training in medical record keeping principles and practices, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, standard nomenclature, and classification of diagnoses and operations, or an Associate's degree in a health care field.

Requires Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administration (RHIA) or other appropriate coding certification in an active status with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Requires three or more years of inpatient coding experience in Acute Care inpatient facility or healthcare system.

Must demonstrate a level of knowledge and understanding of ICD CM and PCS coding principles as recommended by the American Health Information Management Association coding competencies.

Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in a remote setting, utilizing common office programs, coding software and abstracting systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree in a job-related field or experience equivalent to same.

Previous experience in large, multi-system healthcare organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures good working order of instruments.

Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.

2. Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Passes instruments, retracts tissue and operates equipment during surgery.

3. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing.

Participates in counting of sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.

4. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.

5. Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.

6. May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks.

7. This position follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments.

Participates in emergency call rotation. Internal customers are patients, surgeons, and nursing staff. External customers may include practicing physicians and patient families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma / GED or equivalent working knowledge and current basic life support certification.

University Medical Center South PBCs Banner - University Medical Center South is a comprehensive medical center that includes an Emergency department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion.

We are an Arizona Department of Health Services-accredited Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care.

This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary measurements and recording chief complaint;

documents pain scores as appropriate. Reports condition of patient which may be indicative of change in the patient's condition to the clinician.

2. Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures which could include taking patients' blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate / pulse, taking temperature, as well as performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation and EKG's.

Acts as chaperon as needed. Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed.

Responsible for prioritization of patient flow through clinical process.

3. Coordinates and manages patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling of patients for clinic, hospital and other ancillary medical treatments and tests.

Responsible for communicating test results to patient. Acts as a resource to clinician in order to provide optimal patient care.

May administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.

4. Provides clerical support with patient / client notifications and documentation to include but not limited to complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit.

Provides complete and accurate information necessary for billing related to the patient encounter in a timely fashion.

5. Maintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas.

Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures. Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines in handling of hazardous substances.

Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance for prompt repairs.

6. Orders supplies as directed, stocks patient care areas. Medication ordering and tasks related to all medications (e.g.

expired medications / equipment and recalls).

7. Develops and maintains effective communication mechanism with all external and internal customers. Exemplifies service orientation and the team concept in all contacts.

8. This position will complete all necessary on-boarding / orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed.

9. This position works under the direct supervision of the providers. This position interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient.

Also interacts with physician's offices in order to report, ask for or clarify information. Prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma / GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Active Medical Assistant Certification is required. Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.

BLS certification required. POSITION SUMMARY

This position develops, coordinates and provides social work services to patients and families who are faced with social, emotional and situational stressors precipitated by illness, injury, and / or disability.

The goal is to aid in adaptation and empower the patient and the family to participate to the fullest of their abilities in the discharge planning process.

This position provides developmentally appropriate care for the population that it serves which includes planning for the safe discharge and continuity of care, the ability to recognize and plan for the unique needs of all ages as well as the physically disabled, mentally ill, chronically ill and terminally ill patient.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Processes and facilitates the assessment with analysis of functional and psychological needs of the patient within the framework of his / her developmental stage, functional abilities, cultural milieu, and support network.

Assessment of the relationship of the patient's medical needs to the patient's home situation, financial resources, and availability of community resources.

Assessment of the social and emotional factors related to the patient's illness, need for care, response to treatment, and adjustment to care.

Assessment includes : initial assessments, behavioral observations, test (MMSE, depression screening, substance abuse screening), resource identification - strength based, collection and analysis of information to determine an individual's treatment needs.

2. Formulates a plan of intervention acceptable to the patient, family, and health care team. Facilitate adjustments to the plan of care when necessary to promote enhanced outcomes.

Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to develop, manage, and communicate patient needs and discharge plans.

3. Documents all interventions in the patient medical record both timely and accurately including all elements of the transitional care plan to include the discharge plan.

4. Provides advocacy, assistance, support, counseling and crisis intervention to patients and families. Facilitates hospital-sponsored support groups.

5. Functions in a liaison role between the hospital and community in making community resources available to the patient and family.

6. Maintains knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and other program benefits to assist patients with discharge planning and choices.

Knowledge of contemporary behavioral health and system theories relevant to health care, end of life dynamics, and interventions;

grief and bereavement counseling, substance abuse identification and interventions, support of victims of abuse, neglect, or violence.

Provides professional education to staff and community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field (requirement is based on business need and regulatory compliance, all positions may not have this requirement).

Requires a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) (equivalent*) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or have a MSW with the requirement to become licensed within 6 months of hire date.

An equivalent license applies to states that do not recognize an LMSW; therefore, the employee must possess a Master's Degree and be a Licensed Social Worker.

For assignments in an acute care setting, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required.

Requires a proficiency level typically achieved with 3 years acute care hospital experience. Banner Registry and Travel positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting.

Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Social Worker MSW in the specialty area.

Must have knowledge of government / community resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care or any other applicable resources / services.
