- Assist Transportation Manager as directed with day-to-day operations.
- Review and manage all assigned routing to ensure that deliveries meet customer needs and are cost-effective.
- Evaluate and solicit input from drivers regarding routing to decrease overtime and improve customer satisfaction.
- Assist TM with driver training, skills development and performance; create and maintain current effective cross-trainings and safety meeting plans to improve drivers’ skills on all equipment.
- Keep current with laws and practices; participate in and lead (if requested) periodic driver meetings to discuss issues, law and regulation changes and other pertinent matters.
- Assist TM with driver records maintenance on health and fitness, accidents and drug testing in compliance with OSHA and DOT standards.
- When performing duties as a backup Driver, be responsible for safe, professional and courteous delivery of all products to ensure on-time successful delivery and satisfied customers
- Ensure that assigned equipment is mechanically sound and trip-worthy, perform all necessary pre-trip checks, including verification that product has been loaded in a safe and compliant manner, in order to avoid damage in transit.
Report all maintenance needs immediately according to appropriate protocol.
- Transport product safely, on time and in conformance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Build positive customer relationships by providing a high level of service and focus
- Deliver and unload product to stores in a safe, efficient, friendly manner.
- Obtain signatures on invoices and collect payments when required.
- Pick up customer returns according to company returns policy and ensure corresponding paperwork has been completed.
- Appropriately respond to and effectively resolve customer needs as they arise. Communicate customer concerns and opportunities to Animal Supply Company teammates in Operations, Customer Service and Sales.
- Complete trip reports, logbooks and other required paperwork in a compliant, neat and timely manner.
- Maintain neat, professional personal appearance necessary to interact with customers and the general public and appropriately represent Animal Supply Company.
- Maintain necessary unexpired permits and licenses required to perform job duties and operate assigned vehicle legally and compliantly.
- Meet or exceed all company safety and performance expectations; follow company handbook and operations policies and procedures.

Do you have the following qualities?
- Experience with product transport, equipment operation, driver and truck safety best practices
- Excellent communication, listening and problem-solving skills, ability to maintain patience and composure
- Experience coaching / developing others, able to modify interaction style to fit diverse work group needs
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations
- AS 400 experience
- Intermediate or above skill with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Your education & experience should be similar to :
- HS diploma / GED required
- Valid Class A driver’s license, 3+ years commercial driving experience with product delivery responsibilities, 1+ year driving for ASC
- Prior experience in a driver training or lead role desired
Working conditions :
Exposure to seasonal weather conditions, noise and vibrations from truck, may work near moving mechanical parts, such as lifts
Physical requirements :
- Primarily driving and lifting, with some walking, bending, standing
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate a commercial vehicle in a safe and legal manner
- Ability to communicate clearly with customer.
