Job Details
Description
The Bartender is primarily responsible for the preparation of alcoholic beverages, this may also include non-alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, coffee drinks, and other menu items.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing work in a safe manner and following all safety rules.
- Responsible for the bar service and beverage sales in and outside the respective bar or other work area
- Ensure all guests in all service areas (bar, cocktail, dining rooms) receive prompt and full service
- Prior to service, walks through to ensure all tables and bar areas are clean and ready for service
- Present a clean bar list to the passengers and have sufficient bar lists in stock
- Courteously and efficiently deliver and serve beverage items to passengers
- Has recipe knowledge of all drinks and mixes all beverages consistently, follows standardized recipes, neither under nor over pouring liquor
- Ensure that the brand ordered by the passenger is served unless unavailable; ensure a suitable substitute is offered
- Maintain proper glass and garnitures for each drink
- Must prepare and / or mix drinks in front of passengers when served from the bar
- Holds a current ServSafe Alcohol Server certificate and constantly upholds policy regarding serving liquor. Upholds liquor-serving laws and never serves to minors or crewmembers
- Knowledge of wine menu for service in all dining areas
- Maintain point of sale system and properly charge passenger accounts for purchases at the bar
- Complete honesty is required at all times. No Bartender is to give any drink from the Bar without the drink being properly accounted for
- Maintain and clean all utensils, machinery and equipment
- Maintain a sanitary work area, clean and free of clutter, especially with regard to company policy and Food and Drug Administration sanitation requirements
- Ensure that all goods are safe, and securely stored, to prevent damages
- Responsible for maintaining all bars, lounges and pantries for an efficient service to the passenger
- Perform stores handling and loading of liquor orders onto vessel and other duties on vessel turnover days
- Practice food safety procedures as directed by the Food & Beverage Manager
- Maintain stock in bars and requisitioning of liquor and supplies using appropriate forms
- Proper use of all drink blending machines, measuring tools, and equipment
- Proper use of knife for cutting, slicing and dicing of fruit or vegetable for condiments in drinks
- Proper use of glass cleaning machine
- Responsible for assisting with waste disposal
- Responsible for receiving cocktail food items and non-food supplies and storing them in the proper areas in accordance with the FIFO (first in-first out) inventory methods
- Set-up and breakdown of private parties and special activities
- Fills station bill requirements and participate in drills with regard to passenger safety
- Ensure behavior and performance supports the company’s Mission
- Follow company values in responding to others in work situations
- Establishes a good working attitude and is cooperative with all other F&B staff
- Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
- Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed

Requirements & Qualifications
Education :
HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
Professional Certification(s) or License :
- Valid ServeSafe Food Handler certification or ability to acquire and maintain
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) if applicable, and / or ability to obtain and maintain
- Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
- Valid Driver's License
Skills & Abilities :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be fluent in English
- Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
- Proficiency with MS Office applications and POS systems
- Must maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance
- Proficient (advanced preferred) knowledge of fine wine, wine programs / tastings / pairings
Experience :
- Two years of experience in position with similar duties and responsibilities
- Cruise industry experience preferred
Physical :
- Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical
- Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.
- Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some / all the following : confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders

- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident / incident testing.

These items are part of several departments (dining room, housekeeping, etc.) and the impeccable cleanliness and perfect presentation of these items is essential to the overall daily operations of the vessel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- To be knowledgeable of all laundry procedures, chemicals, and supplies
- Always maintain safe and sanitary conditions. All FDA, Coast Guard, and Maritime Security guidelines are to be always followed
- To report any maintenance issues concerning laundry equipment immediately
- To maintain appropriate productive flow of laundry and adhere to schedules of linen and terry pick times
- To stay personally current on cruise events and programs to adjust laundry processing routine
- Assist in removal of room service equipment (dining room trays, dishes, etc.) from passenger staterooms to appropriate locations.
These items should never be left in passenger corridors or elevator lobbies

- Assist other crewmembers with their duties whenever directed or whenever necessary to accomplish overall team goals of providing exemplary service to our passengers.

- Assist with monthly inventories as assigned. May be required to inventory maintenance issues
