Manufacturing Engineer
As a manufacturing engineer with Bridgewater Interiors, you will be directly involved with manufacturing assignments that include developing and improving engineering processes, systems, and tooling.
The manufacturing engineer will also participate in continuous improvement processes, and work with cutting-edge technology to support the plant.
Core Responsibilities :
- Lead and participate in PFMEA analysis.
- Participate as a knowledge leader for Kaizen, lean manufacturing, and other continuous improvement projects.
- Participate in 8D or similar root-cause-based problem-solving tasks.
- Develop and maintain process documentation books for areas of responsibility according to established corporate and third-party standards such as BOS and TS.
- Identify manufacturing needs such as machinery, tools, job aids, etc.
- Prepare specifications for equipment purchases
- Provide technical aid to production operators and other plant and corporate personnel as required, this includes, but is not limited to workstation layouts, tool selection, machine function, and interaction.
- Support the maintenance department by assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment issues.
Additional Responsibilities :
- Actively supports plant safety efforts through departmental participation in safety meetings and safety walks.
- Engages in safe practices as well as follows and enforces safety rules and job rotations.
- Must be willing to report unsafe conditions, report unsafe acts, participate in safety / ergonomic committees, and participate in safety kaizen events, safety audits, and observation feedback.
- Assist the plant in achieving safety goals and maintaining Safe Workplace and Environmental and Sustainability AMS objectives.
- Initiate timely investigations of all reported incidents / accidents and injuries for the department and completion of 8d's (including the 5 Why's, root cause, containment, and corrective action).
May assist other departments with this process as well.
Other duties deemed necessary by the engineering manager.
Basic Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering and three (3) years of related experience. Related experience, training, education, or some combination of all three may be considered.
- Experience using Allen Bradley's RS Logix 5, RS Logix 5000, ControLogix and Panelview development software is a must.
- PLC code development and debug experience.
- Hardware knowledge in PLCs, PCs, HMIs (i.e., Panelview, RS View), controls devices (i.e., sensors, actuators, motion control equipment), and Robotics.
- Experience with Automation Network Interfaces for data and control (Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, ProFiBus, etc.)
- Functional knowledge of intermediate and advanced math functions including trigonometry and algebra.
- Experience with MoDapts time standards.
- Ability to interpret graphs and relationships between inputs and outputs.
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of the following applications : MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Auto Cad LT 2002 or higher.
- General knowledge of plant automation network applications.
- Basic knowledge of the Eight Disciplines (8D) methodology used to approach and resolve problems. The ability to apply this tool to any problem in the plant requires a formal, structured response.

Manufacturing Engineer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Responsible for providing direct interface to customers, suppliers and product engineering organization, specially focused on Seat assembly and process.
Develops and implements Seats related processes, methods, tools, equipment, and controls for the manufacturer of products and components consistent with obtaining and maintaining design integrity, optimum costs, quality, inventories, and investment in facilities.
Activities will include all aspects of prototype development and builds. Actively applies new manufacturing technologies and aggressively evaluates and reports on manufacturing opportunities which will contribute to the JIT plant's objectives and goals.
Participates in the product design activity to assure optimum productivity and costs. Suggests alternative designs, materials, or processes.
Must be capable of resolving all problems while maintaining good rapport with customers. Maintains effective communications with all people affected by projects and issues operating instructions when required.
Issues periodic status reports to keep affected personnel informed. Prepares manufacturing studies to determine optimum manufacturing costs, quality, and inventories and / or evaluates feasibility for new or existing products, processes or materials.
Recommends changes for the most practical and economical manufacturing processes, including material, labor, tooling, equipment, and ancillary factors.
Participates in selecting, approving, and developing tooling and equipment to satisfy manufacturing requirements and product design intent.
Provides customer liaison as relates to product design and engineering matters. Coordinates new processes implementation and training.
Insures that all relevant tooling is capable of making required product to meet all timing goals. Serves as resource person to process changes, problem solving committee, etc.
to insure product design intent is not jeopardized. Actively pursues quality improvements in the manufacturing process.
Serves as champion of Pre-Launch Team of all new programs. Issue minutes of the meetings. Maintain and issue status of all required reports of new programs, ie.
A.Q.P. checklist, issues lists and feasibility assessments. Creates and maintains new program review documentation. Researches and implements state of the art technology to assure that product design is manufactured in most capable / cost effective manner possible.
Insures that product design allows for these state of the art technologies. Works closely with Advance Manufacturing Group in Plymouth to provide direction to ensure plants are pursuing latest technological advances.
Work closely with lean manufacturing matrix teams to ensure key measures such as :

- Press Utilization
- Die Performance
- O-PPM
- Scrap and off-fall reduction meets or exceeds world-class standards.
- Minimization of indirect labor to increase productivity and efficiency
- Lean Manufacturing Implementation.
- Six Sigma Projects
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Perform Ergonomic risk assessment for all cells to ensure safe work envelop.
Perform CpK analysis for applicable producs and torque equipments.
Education and Experience :
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree and 1-2 years of experience preferrered.
- Experience with automation and product launches a plus
