Key job responsibilities
As an Industry Specialist with the SDA, you will own the security-relevant design of our ICD 705 and NISPOM facility builds and expansions. This includes:
• interpreting and communicating physical and technical security requirements, best practices, and Accreditation Official (AO) variances;
• participating in design reviews and the approval process;
• implementing security of the construction site; inspecting and cataloging key stages of each build as prescribed in the CSP or AO guidelines;
• ensuring that these secure areas are protected with Intrusion Detection and Access Control system by developing ACS/IDS design and procurement and that construction meets current TEMPEST requirements for the protection of National Security Information, accredited facilities, and critical cloud infrastructure from insider and external threats.

Data Center Chief Engineer

This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center and to support AWS.

The CE manages small-to-medium projects from conception to completion. These projects involve large amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in both local and global settings. The CE will be tasked with creating and delivering on key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. The goals of such projects are for the CE to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

The CE directs, trains and supports EOT’s in their role of providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. Implementation and execution of site/equipment-specific training exercises is also expected. Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Operations Security is seeking a highly talented and motivated Security Program Manager to join our team. The role is responsible for overseeing physical security design and the installation of security features and systems including Access Control, Intrusion Detection, Camera Surveillance, Passive and Active Barriers, and other security features and capabilities consistent with AWS security standards and contractual requirements. This role will perform security program management in support of new data centers, data center expansions, and special security programs and projects.

You will work directly with the Cluster Security Managers (CSMs), Regional Security Managers (RSMs), Security Site Leads, the Operations Team and other customers, both internal and external, to integrate business and operations requirements into physical security design and implementation. Your work will include supporting the design and deployment of physical security packages and security program enhancements for AWS data centers. Additionally, you will author security design, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), and other security documents for submittal to the U.S. Government.

The ideal candidate for the role will be willing and able to work autonomously with minimal guidance or supervision, to build relationships across peer teams, stakeholders, and partner organizations, at all levels, and to be able to influence cooperation without authority in order to achieve program and project progress and completion. You will have an in-depth knowledge of security practices and technology, be innovative, highly organized and know how to deliver results on time and on budget. You are able to solve ambiguous problems, proactively identify existing or imminent security vulnerabilities, and apply mitigation strategies to reduce overall risk. You may be asked to use your knowledge to assess processes, program plans, and operations requirements to find security solutions or enhancements for routine and unique security requirements. Day in the Life of an EOT I
  • Tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
  • Drive projects with moderate complexity.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and facility management.
  • Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
  • Responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
  • Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, writing procedures and building management systems.
  • Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
  • Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% up-time of the world's largest cloud computing portfolio.
  • Role may support more than one location/site.
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder
