As the Regional Safety Engineer you will own the Health and Safety function of your respective area. You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. Each day you will work with our data center engineers, the people who make the cloud go. They are working with electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear. You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. As AWS increases data capacity you will partner with construction managers to ensure risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.

Responsibilities: - Implement health and safety standards, policies and practices including but not limited to; safety management systems, training, risk assessments, assist with industrial hygiene assessments, and applicable safety regulations.

- Conduct health and safety audits of data centers and active construction sites to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements as well as life safety requirements

- Ensure compliance and implementation of global health and safety programs that exceed regulatory requirements.

- Develop health and safety plans for on-site emergencies, business continuity, and other unique events.

- Maintain adequate safety record keeping and data integrity.

- Perform data trend analysis to present to cluster leadership to support business and safety initiatives.

- Consult and partner with the AWS compliance team for interpretations and guidance.

- Identify risks and partner with Operations to remediate via the hierarchy of controls.

- Daily interactions with our customers delivering health and safety guidance.

This position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The selected candidate must possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, the ability to multitask and operate in a very fast paced complex environment, meet deadlines, and a commitment to Operational Excellence.

The Logistics Specialist reviews Data Center inventory, in-bound shipments, and ongoing demand to ensure that proper stock levels are maintained in the all locations to support build and repair activities. Working with the Logistics Manager, they create plans to optimize the flow of parts through their lifecycle; tracking inventory location, movement, age, and turns. They work closely with Data Center Operations Technicians and Data Center Engineers to fulfill parts quickly and accurately. They work with Procurement and Hardware Engineering to purchase new parts and interface directly with vendors to process RMAs and receive replacements. Regular and ongoing communications with vendors to resolve issues and help them understand our business requirements necessitates a high level communicator.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
• Requires standing, sitting, and walking for prolonged periods of time.
• Assist in loading and unloading shipments.
• Occasionally exposed to extreme cold or hot weather
• Work with and/or around moving mechanical parts

As the Regional Safety Engineer you will own the Health and Safety function of your respective area. You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. They are working with electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear. You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. As AWS increases data capacity you will partner with construction managers to ensure risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.

Responsibilities: - Implement health and safety standards, policies and practices including but not limited to; safety management systems, training, risk assessments, assist with industrial hygiene assessments, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Conduct health and safety audits of data centers and active construction sites to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements as well as life safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of global health and safety programs that exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Develop health and safety plans for on-site emergencies, business continuity, and other unique events.
  • Maintain adequate safety record keeping and data integrity.
  • Perform data trend analysis to present to cluster leadership to support business and safety initiatives.
  • Consult and partner with the AWS compliance team for interpretations and guidance.
  • Identify risks and partner with Operations to remediate via the hierarchy of controls.
  • Daily interactions with our customers delivering health and safety guidance.

A day in the life
  • Involved with projects of moderate complexity.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and facility management.
  • Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
  • Responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Monitor performance of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
