POSITION TITLE : Housekeeping Generalist

REPORTS TO : Executive Housekeeper

POSITION SUMMARY :

Housekeeping Generalist performs routine duties in cleaning and servicing of guest rooms and overall facility under supervision of the housekeeping supervisor.

Assist room attendants on assigned floors; collect dirty linens and transport to laundry area, deliver fresh linens to room attendant carts throughout the day, deliver and retrieve items requested by guests and housekeeping staff.

May assist with stripping linens from room, cleaning of public areas and / or launder linen.

He / She should maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all housekeeping departmental policies / service and the hotel's procedures / standards.

Additionally, maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. As an associate of the hotel, Housekeeping Generalists promote a positive image of the property to guests and must be pleasant, honest, and friendly and should also able to address guest requests and problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Making beds according to standard with fresh sheets and pillowcases.
  • Cleaning rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and / or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and / or shampooers.
  • Emptying wastebaskets and transporting other trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and / or polishing floors, using brooms, mops, and / or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Cleaning mirrors and shelves, wiping doors, door frames, and furniture.
  • Dusting light fixtures, windowsills, baseboards, and picture frames.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, scrubbing basins, tubs, toilets, and tile floor with appropriate chemical solutions and rags in accordance with Vista Host policy.
  • Clean and maintain common areas of the property (inside and outside of building).
  • Replenishing room supplies in proper quantity and location.
  • Proactively maintain assigned areas and equipment.
  • Ensure efficient completion of daily assignments in a timely manner.
  • Review daily inventory of supplies needed to complete assignments.
  • Perform all stages of linen processing, including, but not limited to, collecting, transporting, sorting, weighing, loading and unloading (washers, dryers and chutes), ironing, folding, storing and delivering.
  • Setting up and maintaining complimentary hotel lobby functions.
  • Report all safety, maintenance, and housekeeping concerns to management.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory training.
  • Knowledge and completion of property cleaning procedures.
  • Follow guest safety procedures.
  • Provide a clean and safe environment for guests.
  • Respond to guest service issues in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner.
  • Acknowledge and greet guests in public spaces.
  • May perform similar duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • This job requires continuous movement, regularly bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying. You must also be able to stand and walk for up to eight (8) hours and perform repetitive motions.
  • Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50lbs and pushing and / or pulling approximately 200lbs.
  • Ability to make repeated and continued movements of the shoulders, elbows and hands (below waist and overhead movements).
  • Frequently handling objects and equipment to maintain the facility.
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with guests and employees.
  • Basic reading and writing abilities are utilized often when reading assignments, completing checklist, replacing linens and amenities.
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
  • Basic ability to comprehend English language sufficient to understand information such as labels and instructions and basic guest requests.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to work a varied assignments and schedule that may include early morning, evening, night, weekend and / or holiday shifts.
  • Maintain effective performance under pressure.

Job Responsibilities :

Works as a member of the housekeeping team cleaning a shopping mall or department store under the direction of a local Site Manager.
