SUMMARY

The Regional Environmental Engineer’s primary objective is to ensure regulatory compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations of all sites within the region.

The position directs the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive environmental compliance system for all EPOXY sites within the NA region.

He / she provides leadership and technical expertise to achieve corporate goals for Environmental performance and ensures compliance with polices and applicable regulations through partnership with local management and HSE professionals at each facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership :

  • Set tactical and strategic direction for environmental management and related programs within the NA region
  • Actively participate on the Global Epoxy COE, NA Regional and Site HSE Teams
  • Keep abreast of Corporate and Epoxy environmental strategic initiatives and expectations and provide guidance & feedback regarding all
  • Lead efforts to improve cost reduction and process effectiveness in the areas of air, greenhouse gas, water and wastewater management
  • Focus on the Vision of Zero as it relates to environmental incidents - develop and carryout procedures that effectively control environmental exposures in the company in line with regulatory compliance
  • Direct and coordinate third party environmental consultants in NA region

Operational EHS Management :

  • Continuously develop, review, and revise environmental policy and procedures within the region
  • Lead or coordinate the development of site environmental standards, and participate on corporate teams to develop as needed
  • Maintain and submit internal environmental metrics, analyze data to identify environmental risks, and ensure actions are taken to mitigate or eliminate
  • Lead, coordinate, or participate in environmental improvement initiatives
  • Assist and / or lead incident investigations and participate in management reviews of all significant environmental incidents
  • Participate in site’s budgetary development processes and proactively challenge practices to ensure efficient utilization of resources

Regulatory Compliance (with primary focus on sites Argo, IL and Lakeland, FL) :

  • Ensure site compliance with federal, state and local air regulations, develop and implement related environmental management systems and procedures
  • Complete required permitting activities (KPDES, Storm water, Water Withdrawal), maintain, renew, and obtain new construction / operating permits for all media
  • Ensure air records are complete and organized and air reporting requirements are met (Title V, MACT, NSPS, HAP / VOC, HON, AES)
  • Identify requirements, implement, and maintain facility Air and Water Compliance Plans (LDAR, Waste, SPCC, Water, SMPP, BMP etc.

and schedules and revise as necessary

  • Ensure control data, DMR development data records are complete and organized and reports are submitted in a timely manner
  • Provide oversight for WWTP operation, identification, declaration, and shipment of non-hazardous and hazardous waste (solid and liquid), ensure disposal records are complete and organized
  • Understand and apply as necessary federal, state and local release / spill regulations
  • Ensure immediate incident reporting protocol is followed (EPCRA, CERCLA, MSD) for TRI, Tier I or Tier II materials, ensure RCRA reports are submitted in a timely manner and spill / release records and reports are complete and organized
  • Lead and direct self-review programs, including action item follow up and recordkeeping
  • Provide oversight and perform critical review of contractor work
  • Serve as primary contact with regulatory authorities for all environmental matters

Training & Development :

  • Define and manage Environmental training needs for all site associates & contractors. Ensures all training is completed according to established training plan and records are accurately maintained.
  • Participate in HSE professional organizations & network to stay abreast of Environmental best practices, emerging technology, and all regulatory changes
  • Communicate with HSE professionals at other sites to share best practices

Auditing and Management Systems :

  • Lead self-audits, participate in Corporate HSE and coordinate external environmental audits
  • Partner with corporate and / or sites to close audit findings and implement recommendations
  • Establish, track, report, and analyze the site’s key environmental performance metrics and implement corrective actions as necessary
  • Interface with corporate partners to understand requirements and ensure the plant is compliant with all corporate management system standards

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working or consulting as an Environmental Engineer.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience at a chemical manufacturing plant or equivalent industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of EPA air, water, and waste regulations.
  • Computer literate with standard business software.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to lead and influence project teams
  • Passion for recognizing and leading positive change
  • Aptitude to lead and make challenging decisions in any situation
