At scale, this program will serve breakfast, lunch, and likely dinner to 1,300 students almost 365 days of the year, along with providing curated food programs for DREAM alumni, families, and community members.
The South Bronx campus will be the central hub for DREAM’s food and wellness programs as well as the main culinary event space for high-profile external events.
Reporting to the Director of Special Projects, the Dishwasher will work closely with the Brigaid Program Chef and DREAM kitchen team to execute DREAM’s vision of a best-in-class food and nutrition program.
This individual will be responsible for completing daily ware washing and cleaning tasks, ensuring that the kitchen and storage spaces maintain the highest level of organization, cleanliness, and safety.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone committed to supporting the community’s engagement with food to help execute a one of a kind food program in service of DREAM’s students and families.
Expected weekly hours will be 40-50 hours per week. Expected daily hours will be between 6AM - 8AM starting time and 2PM - 4PM ending time.

Responsibilities :
- Daily ware washing, using dish machines and 3 compartment sinks
- Daily cleaning of equipment, kitchen, and storage areas, including floors
- Monitoring kitchen garbage cans throughout the day and emptying them as necessary
- Ensuring food safety, cleanliness and organization standards are maintained to the highest level at all times
- Assisting with monthly physical inventory of food and supplies
- Maintaining required records, including those related to food production, purchasing, and inventory, as well as all HACCP documentation, including food safety and temperature logs
- Monitoring feedback and preferences from students and communicating feedback to the Lead Cook
- Assisting with special events, such as fundraisers and community meals
- Interfacing with DREAM students, employees, and leadership from a wide variety of backgrounds, establishing and maintaining relationships with families, students, and school staff and leaders
- Additional tasks as necessary, including food preparation and service, receiving and storing deliveries, cleaning, and organizing kitchen and storage areas
- Maintaining DREAM kitchen operating standards and protocols that promote the highest level of food quality, food safety and consistency and adhering to all United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Department of Health (DOH) guidelines and regulations
Qualifications :
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in a professional kitchen setting
- Valid NYC DOH Food Protection Certificate, or the ability to take the self-paced course and pass the exam prior to starting
- The ability to learn and adhere to USDA NSLP and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards and regulations
- Strong understanding of good food safety practices, including warewashing procedures for dish machines and 3 compartment sinks
- The ability to collaborate on setting and implementing a vision of excellence
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences, including colleagues, students and families
- Flexibility in accommodating emergencies or changes in schedule
- The desire and ability to receive and implement feedback
- A commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students

Compensation :
DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase.
The incoming salary range for this position is $40,000-42,000. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications and internal equity.
All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for medical plans and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse / domestic partner and children.

Position Summary
Dishwashers are responsible for cleanliness, organization, and sanitization of all flatware, tableware, dishware, pots, pans, equipment, and actively performing cleaning and maintenance tasks in all areas of the building in a safe manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior experience as a dishwasher and ability to handle high volume, fast paced work load in a restaurant environment preferred

Overview of Responsibilities
- Scrape and sort dishes before loading them into a dishwashing machine for cleaning
- Monitor dish machine water temperature during sanitary wash cycle
- Unload dishwashing machines, sort, put away all items in proper storage units
- Maintain cleanliness, safety of all work areas, and operate all machinery in a safe manner
- Sweep and scrub kitchen floors to ensure a clean and tidy work area
- Remove garbage and discard in designated area / dumpster regularly
- Maintain adequate levels of detergents and other cleaning supplies
- Stock supplies such as food items and utensils in kitchen and storage areas
- Use hand trucks to move supplies or equipment from a storage area to work area
- Maintain dishwashing machine and report any mechanical faults to management
- Stock and arrange kitchen utensils and dishes in an orderly manner
- Handle glassware and other fragile tableware to prevent breakage
- Use designated rags to polish all glass and stemware to remove streaks or spots, as requested by Management

Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining the kitchen and dining areas in a clean and orderly condition. Washes, cleans, sanitizes and stores all dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and other equipment used to operate the kitchen and dining room areas.
Cleans floors, equipment and other areas as assigned.
- Provide a high level of customer service and promote a restaurant style dining atmosphere.
- Work closely with the Director of Culinary Services and / or Executive Director to keep residents satisfied with food and dining programs.

- Assist with the preparation and execution of the Art of Atria Dining enhancement programs.
- Maintain dish machine after each meal by thoroughly cleaning and maintaining sanitizing temperatures and parts per million levels.
- Adhere to cleaning schedules as assigned.
- Assist with the transportation and storage of food and supplies.
- Assist cooks and wait staff as requested.
- Adhere to Quality Enhancement standards and standard food safety practices.
- Assist with preparation and execution of special events, banquets, and theme meals.
- Attend pre-meal stand up in kitchen prior to meal service.
